We’re looking for a talented and experienced Intermediate Product Content Writer to join our in-house Product Content & Catalog Marketing group within the larger Marketing team. Reporting to the Manager, Product Content & Catalog Marketing, you will play a critical role in developing compelling product content across all websites, print and digital catalogs, ensuring our brand voice is consistent, compelling, and drives business results. This role is responsible for developing written content that helps convey the value, benefits, features and impact of our products to customers. In this role, this individual will help to educate our customer base on a variety of products through compelling, descriptive written messaging ranging from product descriptions to long-form “A+ content” for our online stores and print + digital product catalogs.

Our corporate headquarters is in Chicago, IL. This role operates on a hybrid work model; employees spend two days working in the office and three days working remotely. We offer 401k plus vision, dental and medical benefits, as well as a paid holiday and PTO package.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Writes compelling, relevant product content that provides clear and compelling reasons to purchase products and services from Lawson and aligns with our overall brand and value proposition. 
  • Develops product content that includes, but is not limited to: headlines, descriptions, image titles, back-end metadata, captions, features, benefits, points of performance, business impacts and A+ content when necessary. 
  • Incorporates SEO optimizations from Growth team to maximize searchability of products online. 
  • Proofreads and edits work, assuring best practices and brand guidelines/voice are adhered to. 
  • Creates compelling headlines and engaging body copy that capture the target audience's attention while staying true to brand, regulatory, and other requirements. 
  • Adapts tone of voice and word choice to appropriately tailor the message for variances in platforms and audiences. 
  • Adapts product content, working with Demand Generation team and an understanding of nuances of products across industries and applications, to make products more meaningful to various audiences. 
  • Creates timely and compelling product marketing content for new and existing product launches/re-launches. 
  • Adapts product copy as necessary for print and web. 
  • Works with cross-functional teams to implement written product content across websites, print and digital catalogs.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, English, Communications, Journalism, or a related field, with at least 3 years of technical and/or product marketing writing, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Ability to turn technical product features into compelling copy that sells. 
  • Exceptional writing skills, specifically product marketing content. 
  • High sense of urgency and accountability. 
  • Strong research skills and ability to gather additional details if needed, to create product content. 
  • Excellent proofreading and editing skills. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a larger team. 
  • Self-starter and passionate about delivering high-quality, on-time content. 
  • Experience working collaboratively with direct and cross-functional teams. 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. 
  • Knowledge of SEO best practices with product copy and experience with implementing keywords in copy. 
  • Understanding of best practices in copywriting (structure, grammar, etc.). 
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging to specific audiences. 
  • Experience in a B2B environment. 
  • Manufacturing and/or Distribution is a plus. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, such as Word and PowerPoint. 
  • Experience with product information systems is a plus. 
  • Experience with content marketing tools and analytics is a plus.
