HOURCAR is the Twin Cities’ and Rochester’s only non-profit car-sharing organization.

In 2021, HOURCAR will launch the Twin Cities Electric Vehicle Community Mobility Network, a new all-electric one-way carsharing service with a focus on service to low-wealth communities and communities of color. Supported by a $6.7 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy, this project represents the largest public/private investment in shared mobility in the United States, and will be the first 100% renewable transportation system in the Western Hemisphere.

HOURCAR seeks an experienced Product Marketing Manager to refine and execute HOURCAR’s go-to-market strategy for this flagship product. The Product Marketing Manager will be responsible for ensuring the product meets member acquisitiongoals, and will receive additional compensation based on a pre-determined incentive structure for achieving defined growth targets.

Qualified applicants will have demonstrated experience implementing marketing campaigns, with proven outcomes in generating leads and conversions. The Product Marketing Manager will collaborate closely with HOURCAR’s Community Engagement Coordinator and Member Services staff to ensure the product’s marketing and communications strategy aligns with HOURCAR’s values and overall ethos.

You’ll be in charge of:

Marketing campaigns

  • Plan and implement multi-media marketing campaigns 
  • Direct and manage graphic designers, copywriters, photographers, public relations professionals, and web developers 
  • Direct and manage the design and production of marketing materials (digital, print, video, audio, promotional items, etc.) 
  • Project-manage vendors, budgets, timelines, etc. 
  • Perform market research 
  • Develop and implement promotional campaigns (pricing discounts, special offers, etc.)

Website/App

  • Maintain and update HOURCAR’s existing WordPress website (hourcar.org) 
  • Develop and implement app download campaign for launch of HOURCAR’s new technology platform 
  • Solicit bids, select contractor, and oversee development of new website for launch of HOURCAR’s one-way EV carsharing service

Digital Marketing

  • Develop and implement effective digital marketing campaigns (search, social, content marketing, email marketing, sales promotions, etc.) 
  • Develop communications strategy for current HOURCAR members 
  • Develop and manage marketing funnel for leads and prospective members 
  • Create compelling content for social media 
  • Grow social media audience and engagement through organic and paid content

Earned Media

  • Reintroduce HOURCAR to the local community in the leadup to the launch of the new electric vehicle service (July 1, 2021) by pitching and placing stories in a diverse range of Twin Cities publications 
  • Identify, retain, and manage a media relations professional as needed to assist with earned media acquisition

Community Outreach/Events

  • Work closely with the Community Engagement Coordinator to develop and implement marketing campaigns with a focus on communities of color and low-wealth neighborhoods 
  • Work closely with the Community Engagement Coordinator and Member Services staff to plan and execute promotional events that increase HOURCAR’s visibility in these and other communities, including member sign-up drives at community centers 
  • Participate in community events (University of Minnesota Transportation Fair, Open Streets, etc.), organize staff and/or recruit volunteers to assist with tabling

You have these qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills 
  • Media planning and buying experience across digital and out-of-home media (radio, streaming and traditional television, podcasts, etc. a plus) 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects and oversee outside vendors and consultants 
  • Able to work within a budget 
  • Able to be self-directed, set and keep deadlines, and work independently 
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to multi-task 
  • Ability to work with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint) and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator) 
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, professional environment 
  • Ability to work both independently and as a part of a team 
  • Work closely with other HOURCAR staff as part of the whole team, including respecting others’ identities and using correct pronouns, and respecting everyone’s different styles of learning and interacting 
  • Cordiality and respect for diverse audiences at all times, including honoring gender identities and using correct pronouns 
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and a driving record that meets HOUCAR’s membership requirements (https://hourcar.org/membership_qualifications/) 
  • Must have accessible transportation or the ability to use public transportation to travel to off-site meetings and events

Bonus if you have these skills as well:

  • Experience working in small, resource-constrained organizations, startups and/or nonprofits 
  • Digital marketing platforms (Google, Facebook, and Instagram ads) 
  • Email marketing platforms (MailChimp) 
  • Volunteer recruitment and management 
  • Some experience with basic graphic design and web design a plus 
  • Knowledgeable about Twin Cities geography 
  • Multi-modal transportation, including car sharing, transit, walking and biking

Physical requirements:

  • Able to sit for sustained periods of time in an indoor setting 
  • Occasionally able to stand for long periods of time (e.g., tabling at events) 
  • Ability to communicate verbally 
  • Frequent use of communication devices including computer and telephone 
  • Able to concentrate, learn and retain knowledge 
  • Ability to lift 35 pounds 
  • Fluent in speaking, reading and writing English
