Proofreader/Copy Editor

COLE Publishing is looking for a full-time copy editor/proofreader for our publications. Candidates must be able to function in a deadline-driven, detail-oriented environment, while maintaining a certain level of flexibility. Ability to prioritize and multitask is a must. 

Other responsibilities include:

• Organize and finalize gathering of materials for both print and online publishing.
• Proofread and fact check editorial prior to publishing.
• Tag internet articles with relevant terms/copy to increase search engine relevancy.
• Write photo captions for both print and online.
• Ensure both copy and photos follow appropriate deadlines, and will be ready for layout when required.
• Research and interview manufacturers in order to write original and informative marketing/sales/ product copy.
• Assist editors and editorial layout team as required.

Knowledge of AP Style is required. A degree in either English or Journalism is preferred, but relative work experience will be considered in place of 4 year degree. Ideal candidate has one to three years experience as a copy writer, editor or proofer.

All candidates will be asked to take a copy editing test, and we would be willing to train the right candidate to improve skills.

Salary commensurate with experience. Benefits include: medical insurance (including dental and vision) offered, 401k with a match, paid vacation and holidays. 9-80 work schedule - every other Friday off. Working remotely will be considered for the right candidate.
