The District is seeking a PT Communications & Marketing Specialist to join the District's Communications team, which is part of the Department of Leadership and Support. This position supports the Communications & Public Affairs Manager and Resource Team in executing the District's communications and marketing plan and promoting the District brand.

About the Position

This position requires excellent traditional and digital communication skills and knowledge, with a specific focus on social and digital media experience, technical website expertise, great organization and planning skills, and a drive to think creatively. This position further requires an individual with strong writing and editing abilities, a willingness to build relationships with the media and internal and external partners. The candidate must be able to perform duties in an ever-changing environment and be flexible to frequently changing priorities.

The person in this position will be expected to work 24 hours a week and work hours may be flexible between the hours of 7:30-4:30. The final schedule will be worked out with the selected candidate.

What you will do

  • Assist in managing social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn) 
  • Help plan social campaigns that support District programs and mission 
  • Assist with marketing materials 
  • Keep up to date and informed on new communications and digital marketing trends and adapt accordingly 
  • Create and manage an editorial calendar to ensure content is timely, relevant and engaging
  • Help develop District email marketing program 
  • Work with District staff to tell the story of the District 
  • Assist with the redesign of madsewer.org and help plan and execute a rebuild of our employee intranet 
  • Track and analyze metrics 
  • Write press releases and reach out to local media to secure placement 
  • Copyediting using established District guidelines
  • Provide coverage for the Resource Team as needed, including assisting with and attending events, answering phones and other office duties

Training and Experience

  • A 4-year degree in marketing, digital marketing, communications, English, public relations or a similar field;or 
  • A 2-year Technical Diploma or Associate Degree in social media, marketing, digital marketing, communications, English, public relations or a related field plus at least two years' work experience in the field.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Experience with creating engaging content for social platforms, particularly Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram 
  • Understands and can utilize emerging platforms, digital media and web/social media management and measurement tools 
  • Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills 
  • Strong working knowledge of email marketing applications 
  • Ability to take initiative, employ good judgment and manage projects from start to finish
  • WordPress experience 
  • Organized with an exceptional ability to manage details 
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment 
  • Ability to meet deadlines and to anticipate next steps or needs 
  • Work effectively both independently and as part of a team 
  • Adobe Creative Suite experience 

Preferred but not required

  • HTML and CSS experience 
  • Experience with creating and editing videos 
  • Knowledge of Google Analytics 

The pay range is $26.60 - $35.99 per hour. We provide excellent benefits, a casual, friendly work environment and support for ongoing development. Part-time employees are currently eligible for leave benefits and this position will also be eligible for participation in the Wisconsin Retirement System.
