The Public Relations / Executive Assistant is responsible for ensuring timely public awareness of City initiatives, successes and challenges through development, execution and measurement of a comprehensive communications plan. This position also performs administrative support tasks, some of which may be confidential in nature, and reception and customer service duties.

  • Develop a comprehensive communications plan
  • Develop a social media and other communications policy
  • Create timely communications that focus on key messages and ensure understanding of plans and projects to build public confidence and trust
  • Create and disseminate high quality communications for all City audiences (city staff, residents, businesses and organizations) through website, print material and social media
  • Spotlight City achievements
  • Ensure the City’s website design is intuitive and content is accurate, informative and up-to-date
  • Oversee the daily maintenance and growth of the City’s social media accounts such as Facebook
  • Act as spokesperson, when requested, for the City to provide timely responses to media inquiries. 
  • Assist in writing speeches, letters and articles to the public
  • Keep City Manager informed of potential issues or unusual events
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding City/workplace matters
  • Organize and distribute City Council and Plan Commission meeting agenda packets
  • Perform reception duties. Screen and route in-coming telephone calls. Direct visitors. Provide information or refer to appropriate person or agency. Take and relay messages
  • Prepare correspondence, memos, reports, meeting agendas, minutes, legal notices, legal forms and other materials from oral and written instructions
  • Make appointments for City Manager and City Engineer and maintain appointment and meeting calendars
  • Maintain index of items heard by City Council, Plan Commission and Transportation & Traffic Review Committee
  • Maintain annual citizen appointments and reappointments to various Boards and Committees
  • Act as Board of Zoning Appeals Secretary. Notify property owners regarding zoning matters
  • Prepare and file annual and quarterly documents for Shared Ride Taxi Program
  • Assist with collection of property taxes and animal licensing fees, when needed
  • Perform other clerical and administrative support duties as required
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or related field. 
  • Three to five years successful experience in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or related field. 
  • Evidence of published communication and public relations materials to a broad range of audiences, including the use of metrics. 
  • Demonstrated ability in effective oral and written communication utilized in public relations and various media platforms. 
  • Demonstrated ability to respond positively to the diverse needs of citizens, staff, businesses, and the greater community.

Salary range of $51,000 - $56,000 depending on qualifications, with excellent benefits.
