Public Relations Specialist

Job Summary:

As Public Relations Specialist, you will have the opportunity to work with local and national media outlets nationwide, interact with Best Buy’s internal teams and external partners, and be part of an energetic, in-house External Communications team that drives tens of thousands of media stories a year for one of the leading retailers in the country.

You will focus on providing media relations support, including building and maintaining relationships with reporters, editors, and producers to effectively pitch and fulfill stories. As a Public Relations Specialist, you will be involved in both proactive and reactive media relations. This person will assist in creating strategic communication plans for a variety of cross-functional projects in partnership with both internal and external partners.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to manage multiple projects, be a skilled storyteller, have a passion for interacting with reporters on a daily basis and be able to quickly understand topics/issues and how to translate into news for media.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Media relations for local and national outlets 
  • Proactive and reactive support for PR activations 
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to find, strategize and tell Best Buy stories 
  • Communicate with external partners around a variety of PR activations 
  • Communication planning and project management

Basic Qualifications:

  • 1+ year of public relations and communications experience 
  • 1+ year writing content and strategic communication planning 
  • 1+ year developing and managing projects with stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism or Business 
  • Experience with meeting aggressive daily, weekly deadlines 
  • Ability to work in a team environment, working on assignments with overlapping priorities and schedules 
  • Ability to find, create and tell meaningful stories through a variety of channels
