The Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis serves the public by pursuing a growing economy and stable financial system that work for all of us. The Public Affairs department of the Minneapolis Fed seeks a Research Assistant for an entry-level position assisting its Regional Economy team with data collection and analysis regarding the state of the Ninth District’s economy.

This position can be based in Minneapolis, MN or Helena, MT. It is currently a remote position due to Covid-19.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assist with data collection and analysis on regional and national economic issues; this analysis can lead to co-authored articles on the Minneapolis Fed’s website.
  • Develop and track traditional and nontraditional data sources for keeping abreast of current economic conditions and developments. Produce written and visual content (articles, charts, infographics) of economic indicators and variables for use on the Bank’s website, for internal reports on current business conditions, and for external use to stakeholder groups, including speeches and presentations by economists.
  • Organize data and perform statistical analysis using Excel, R, and/or other statistical software. Present results of research to economists and management in oral or written reports.
  • Assist in the development and execution of both scientific and ad hoc surveys gauging business conditions among Ninth District businesses and other stakeholder groups
  • Bachelor's degree with coursework in economics, statistics, mathematics, or database analysis.
  • Strong analytic and problem-solving skills; effective oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate data through graphics; proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Demonstrated ability to meet strict deadlines and work cooperatively within a team environment.
  • Experience in survey methodology and execution.
  • Demonstrated experience with data collection, management and analysis using large databases and statistical packages (e.g. Stata, R, SAS, Python, Matlab) or other related computer programming experience is preferred. Familiarity with web programming and API management is a plus.
