The Sr. Art Director, Direct-to-Customer, delivers superior and compelling design that drives customer behavior with the ultimate goal of generating leads and direct sales of Thomson Reuters products and services, as well as building brand awareness and loyalty. The Sr. Art Director builds on-strategy concepts (usually with a Copywriter) that fulfill client objectives and translates these concepts to high-quality marketing materials in a variety of media. The Sr. Art Director consistently creates print and digital marketing communications that inform customers of key product information and promotions in a way that is compelling and commensurate with the Thomson Reuters brand.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:

The Sr. Art Director is responsible for creating (or co-creating) exceptional advertising concepts and acting as the primary artist to see projects through to flawless completion. The Sr. Art Director must:

  • Deliver high-quality, technically proficient concepts and design/layout, including but not limited to catalogs and other direct mail, multichannel campaigns, ads, email, banner ads, websites, video storyboards, trade show collateral, feature/research articles and whitepapers, and more 
  • Create and deliver an overall campaign “look and feel” with guidelines that allow work to be handed off to other artists or production artists; this may include templates, individual style/design guidelines, or other graphic standards 
  • Collaborate with Creative Services team members (primarily Account Staff, Creative Leads, Copywriters and Copyeditors) to make recommendations to clients regarding communications objectives, strategies, and tactics 
  • Formally present/pitch concepts and other initiatives as requested to clients and colleagues 
  • Work independently; proactively problem solve 
  • Ensure Thomson Reuters style guide and brand fundamentals are adhered to in all marketing communications materials 
  • Maintain an extensive, current understanding of proven best practices in print and digital advertising and appropriately employ them; research and propose new tactics periodically 
  • Maintain a superior understanding of Thomson Reuters customers, products, and services through formal training and review of product literature; share knowledge with and act as a resource for Creative Services staff 
  • Maintain a superior understand of the Thomson Reuters brand and evangelize it internally 
  • Manage multiple projects efficiently to meet project deadlines and complete work within client-approved timelines 
  • Assist in training Art Directors, Designers, and Freelancers, providing on-going mentoring and coaching as requested

EDUCATION:

  • Degree in graphic design or related field.

EXPERIENCE:

  • At least 6-8+ years of experience in art direction (or equivalent) 
  • Superior commercial art design skills with emphasis on standard industry tools including strong Mac skills in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat, etc. (experience with Adobe Animate, Adobe Edge Animate, or Tumult Hype Pro is helpful, but not required) 
  • Strong technical skills, knowledge of graphic file preparation, web requirements, and USPS postal requirements 
  • Superior knowledge of design techniques, typography, photography, print techniques and paper selection 
  • Design experience in digital media, including web design and email marketing 
  • Experience with both Business-to-Business and Business-to-Consumer approaches 
  • Proven conceptual/problem-solving skills and ability to create multiple creative approaches for each project that are suitable for high-visibility national advertising 
  • Solid presentation skills 
  • Effective project management skills/attention to detail and the ability to work with Creative Services electronic scheduling tool and Brand Library; ability to work independently to meet deadlines and stay within cost estimates 
Preferred:
  • Understanding of the financial services and risk industry and markets and/or the legal industry and markets
  • Candidates must present a body of work that demonstrates on-strategy conceptual and technical excellence.
