The Communications Division is responsible for all internal and external communications efforts. The team works to provide meaningful, relevant, and accurate information in clear and understandable terms targeted to specific audiences. The team works to improve integrity, trust, respect, and understanding about SWIB with its audiences; protect SWIB’s brand and credibility; provide managers with the support and tools needed to ensure organizational success; and collaborate across the organization to support SWIB’s achievement and goals.

The Senior Communications Specialist assists the communications manager by leading the internal communication planning and execution with the leadership team and employees at SWIB. The role also encompasses the development and maintenance of a consistent communication structure that ensures that internal stakeholders stay informed about all relevant aspects of the business and organization. In addition, this position will support external communication initiatives and activities.

Essential Activities:

Internal Communications

  • Build and shape an internal communications strategy, requiring significant partnership with Communications Manager, executives, and Human Resources Division throughout SWIB.
  • Responsible for planning, developing, and executing internal communication strategies.
  • Work with leadership to ensure message consistency and alignment across all divisions.
  • Exhibit strong project management and can work iteratively to deliver a brand vision and execute via multiple platforms. 
  • Have a big picture view of opportunities, identifying, and solving challenges. 
  • Be a strategic thinker, but also a resourceful executor to support the development and circulation of integrated messaging for internal audiences in an environment that adapts quickly to changes in a competitive landscape. 
  • Develop, write, and edit a wide range of communications and publish to intranet, SWIB’s online internal news system, and broadcast email distributions to help ensure employee awareness, understanding, and participation in programs related to increasing engagement and improving the SWIB culture. 
  • Coordinate activities related to the planning, development, delivery and organization of changes, focusing on awareness, building desire, providing knowledge and then reinforcing for sustainment to maximize employee adoption, ensure organizational updates are meaningful and digested by all audiences. 
  • Contribute to ongoing, continuous improvement of the intranet, proactively develop and implement improvements. 

Social Media

  • Create high quality content that integrates across web channels and social media platforms.
  • Create engaging and accurate content for social media campaigns and initiatives. 
  • Maintain daily content calendars for all priority social platforms and ensure communications are appropriately timed. 
  • Iterate, improve and implement strategies, tactics, and social media engagement opportunities and crisis communication monitoring across new and existing platforms and channels. 
  • Develop and lead presentations and trainings on social media and community management best practices internally. 
  • Lead video series including planning, directing, and editing videos.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in internal communications or related field 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing or related field 
  • Experience in the financial services or investmentmanagementindustry or working at a pension fund 
  • Deep knowledge of employee engagement, communications trends, and best practices
  • Demonstrated business acumen and skills in translating business strategies to comprehensive corporate communication strategies 
  • Demonstrated ability to understand multiple, diverse stakeholders, anticipate impact of company actions on corporate reputation, and translate complex issues into clear, simple and consistent messages and themes. Experience acting as advisor on company reputation, values and culture 
  • Proficient at effectively managing workload to meet deadlines, while delivering high-quality work 
  • Ability to work as an integral part of a team, fostering teamwork and cultivating relationships, as well as work independently or with minimal direction 
  • Clear, concise, and informative writing skills 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) 
  • Proficiency in Adobe Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Premiere Pro
