Senior Communications Strategist


Cuningham is a national multi-disciplinary design firm evolving into a future state that will be guided by a deep purpose – a choice its leaders have made to design for ecological and social well-being. As Cuningham’s practice evolves, so too must its communications. As the Sr. Communications Strategist you will play a critical role in further establishing and elevating Cuningham’s voice – a voice that will reflect specific goals and objectives outlined in the Strategic Plan.

As a Senior Communications Specialist, you will be responsible for leading and supporting a wide variety of communications initiatives and projects for Cuningham’s employment brand and market facing client brand. This position requires industry and market experience, excellent verbal and written communication skills, a keen eye for design and a highly collaborative approach tailored to working with a wide variety of stakeholders across multiple levels of leadership. This is a role that allows for remote work flexibility, some travel may be required.

  • One Cuningham – Through the development and review of content, you will work with stakeholders to ensure all content is reflective of Cuningham’s brand, aligned with its strategic pillars, consistent in tone and impactful in message. 
  • Leadership – Experience leading, managing, mentoring and evaluating others and directing work to team members. 
  • Content generation – Working collaboratively with creative services, develop and execute a comprehensive strategy designed to ensure brand aligned content is continually and consistently generated in support of firmwide and studio specific needs. Work in collaboration with creative services team to package content for omni-channel distribution. 
  • Thought Leadership + Innovation - Work collaboratively with Executive Directors to develop a content strategy in support of firmwide thought leadership and expertise program. 
  • Storytelling & Copywriting – lead the development of creative storytelling and technical copywriting for all Cuningham firmwide and studio-based marketing assets across print and digital, inclusive of brand, communications, marketing and website platforms. 
  • Promotion – Propose and lead projects designed to elevate Cuningham’s positioning and generate awareness with its target audiences. i.e., new publications, new web site pages, new campaigns. 
  • Collaboration – work collaboratively and effectively with creative service, marketing management and studio teams. Be a resource for these teams and the executive team on the development of content for internal and external audiences. 
  • Process Development – Identify problems with current processes and propose, create, implement and “own” new comprehensive processes that lead to the development of highly effective, brand aligned content for internal and external audiences. 
  • Content Audit – Review existing content across Cuningham’s external marketing assets to determine alignment with Cuningham’s brand evolution. Develop a comprehensive program designed to update misaligned content in a timely and effective manner. Prioritize content updates based on risk factors to the brand and business needs.

What we look for

  • 10+ years’ industry experience working in a leadership role, preferably for national multi-disciplinary, multi-sector firms.
  • Familiarity with market trends in education, residential, entertainment + hospitality, office, and healthcare sectors preferred. 
  • Proven ability to identify and anticipate problems and develop solutions. 
  • Excellent creative and technical writing skills and a strong design sensibility. 
  • Proven track record developing content generation programs in support of employment and market facing client brands. 
  • Proven ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously with a broad constituency of stakeholders.
