About the Role:

The Morningstar Digital Team is looking for an exceptional Senior Copywriter with a passion for creating powerful copy that inspires action and with a comprehensive understanding of the specific demands of digital media. Creating content that drives clicks and engagement, optimizing content based on data and insights, and developing creative concepts and solutions for a wide variety of audiences and user needs, are key areas of the day-to-day work. We’re looking for writers who are conceptual thinkers and storytellers that can translate complex offerings into simple and compelling ideas. In short, the Senior copywriter is excited about creating digital experiences and understands how to innovatively use their writing to reach business objectives.

We prefer for this position to be in our Chicago or Toronto office but will consider candidates working remotely in the United States or Canada where Morningstar is registered to conduct business. The ideal candidate will bring a high degree of self-motivated engagement and high connectivity/availability within our time zones.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Write powerful and compelling copy for web, campaigns, email, social, ads, landing pages, and other assets 
  • Partner with campaign management and product marketing to understand target audiences and how our offerings help address their needs and pain points 
  • Collaborate with marketers, content strategists, channel strategists, data analysts, and designers to develop campaigns to support business objectives 
  • Champion a natural language approach to brand voice and style 
  • Think in systems, always keeping in mind what came before and what comes after for the reader or user 
  • Apply data and insights to inform and optimize web pages and demand generation messaging 
  • Take complex business language and distill it into clear, simple headlines and copy that audiences will understand and connect with 
  • Develop a customer case study program to capture and elevate customer stories that drive demand 
  • Work cross functionally to partner and produce compelling storytelling content, anchored in business outcomes – across written, audio, visual, and interactive media.

You must submit a portfolio link to be considered for this position. Other qualifications:

  • 5-7+ years of copywriting experience, including web, digital advertising, social media, SEM, email, and case studies in an agency or corporate environment
  • Experience in B2B marketing, with a strong background in understanding brand voice, target personas, and stages of the marketing funnel
  • Excellent oral/written presentation skills; proficiency in preparation and presentation of creative work
  • A collaborative spirit
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, virtual environment managing multiple stakeholders, projects, and priorities
  • Knowledge of SEO principles and tactics
  • Familiarity with quantitative practices, like A/B testing
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Writing, English, Journalism, Marketing, Communications or a related field preferred
