SmithBucklin, an employee-owned association management company, is looking for a Senior Director, Brand & Communications to join the Corporate Marketing team in our Chicago office. In this role, we are seeking a proven marketing professional to lead all aspects of internal and external communications. This position will lead a team of 4+ individuals, possible agency relationships and serve as a strategic partner with senior management, including business unit heads, CEO and Chief People Officer on client and employee engagement and retention strategies.

The ideal candidate has had proven success in creating the needed structure, alignment and talent to support approved strategies and initiatives. Additionally, this individual has demonstrated the flexibility, insightfulness and savvy to interface closely with numerous stakeholders throughout the business to ensure success with a variety of audiences, including employees, clients and the association industry. Exceptional command of brand campaigns, paid, earned and owned media are critical for success, as are energy, enthusiasm, experience and fresh thinking!

What you’ll do:

  • Build and extend our brand via creative messaging and campaigns 
  • Develop messaging and amplification strategies for key initiatives (internal and external), including executive communications 
  • Develop and oversee strategies for brand growth and awareness 
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to create innovative programs and campaigns that drive employee engagement and retention; directly manage strategic committees aligned with our corporate culture and strategic initiatives (e.g. Corporate Social Responsibility) 
  • Direct public relations and publicity initiatives internally &/or with an agency 
  • Oversee execution of paid and owned media strategies 
  • Develop and integrate KPIs 
  • Oversee all functional areas of operations, including financial management, resource planning, business planning, and budgeting process 
  • Work with stakeholders to establish target audiences for strategic campaign development and execution

This Role Might Be for You If…

  • You have experience in directly managing, coaching and developing a team of 4 or more 
  • You are an expert in developing, executing and measuring marketing plans and campaigns 
  • You work well under pressure with competing priorities 
  • You are highly collaborative with the proven ability to lead, create and work within cross-functional team environments 
  • Your written and verbal communication skills are excellent
  • Knowledge of key platforms and channels for B2B marketing, including but not limited to owned, earned and paid media 
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience in a strategic marketing leadership role inclusive of managing and coaching a team of at least 4 and creating a structure to align to evolving business priorities and needs 
  • Strategic, critical thinker, with an innovative spirit and strong business sense 
  • Experience in a professional services environment is a must
