Job Summary:

The Senior Director of Development Operations will supervise the Senior Manager of Development Operations and maintain responsibility for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of this staff.

  • Document all operating policies and procedures for data base management 
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies, procedures and all applicable laws. 
  • Recruit, interview and train any new operations employees; coach and mentor staff; plan, assign and oversee development work; and review employee performance on a regular basis taking corrective action when necessary

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Include the following.

  • Responsible for creating and managing effective philanthropic support services, including gift processing, database administration and reporting and prospect research, to support annual revenue goals and special campaigns. 
  • Ensure accuracy of philanthropic data/data collection and develop reporting for comprehensive and strategic analysis, in collaboration with the Development team. 
  • Oversee timely and accurate input and acknowledgement of gifts and pledges. 
  • Perform regular database audits to control errors. Provide data for stewardship, solicitation and other departmental activities. 
  • Organize and present ongoing training of staff members on using the database to its fullest potential. 
  • Conduct robust individual, corporate and foundation prospect research to develop comprehensive strategies and aid in the growth of the Development team’s annual revenue goals and to achieve future campaign goals. 
  • Proactively analyze and interpret donors’ biographical, donation and wealth screening information to help define giving trends and aid in setting strategy. 
  • Manage donor assignments in database for development and executive staff, as well as Board Members, committee members and volunteers. 
  • Contribute to and execute the annual Development plan and achieve corresponding budget goals. 
  • Provide oversight and management of Development Department operating budget. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience:

  • 10 years’ experience minimum, with progressively responsible work with programming and reporting, working with complex relational databases.
  • Required proficiency in information and database management, prior experience with Raiser’s Edge, Microsoft Excel, fluency with Excel formulas like VLOOKUP and Pivot tables a plus

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in computer science, database management or concentration in Management Information Systems (MIS);

Skills:

  • Must have a strong customer service orientation; ability to build collaborative relationships with colleagues 
  • Must be highly proficient with database logic and programming concepts; should be comfortable creating logic statements using multiple operators - IF, AND, OR, VLOOKUP, etc. 
  • Comfort and effective translation between end user needs and database output; strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively with a variety of people in a team emphasized environment. 
  • Excellent communication skills, including proficiency in editing, spelling, and grammar; accurate and efficient data entry and word processing skills. 
  • Excellent project management, communication, interpersonal and research skills, ability to maintain confidentiality. 
  • Ability to handle various special projects on an ongoing basis while addressing daily needs for the agency; ability to meet multiple priorities under strict deadlines. 
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to exercise independent initiative as appropriate, strong attention to detail. 
  • Must have a valid WI driver’s license, a good driving record and meet state required automobile insurance minimums.
