The Senior Director of Development and Marketing is a key member of the executive team, responsible for the strategic direction and day-to-day leadership of all development, marketing, and community outreach efforts. This role oversees and integrates fundraising, communications, and volunteer engagement to increase awareness, grow revenue, and deepen stakeholder relationships that advance Next Door’s mission.

This leader builds and manages a high-functioning team, coordinates with external vendors, collaborates closely with program and finance leaders, and serves as the primary liaison to the Board and senior donors on philanthropic initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership

  • Lead and integrate organization-wide fundraising, communications, and community engagement strategies.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Team to align development and marketing efforts with agency priorities and funding needs.
  • Develop and execute annual and multi-year development and communication plans, including goals, budgets, and performance metrics.
  • Fundraising and Donor Relations
  • Direct all fundraising efforts, including major gifts, annual fund, corporate and foundation giving, planned giving, and special campaigns.
  • Oversee cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of a portfolio of major donors and prospects; support President and board in high-level donor engagement.
  • Supervise development of grant strategies and proposals.
  • Ensure effective use of donor databases and research tools, including Raiser's Edge.

Marketing and Communications

  • Lead the development and implementation of integrated marketing and communications strategies.
  • Guide messaging, content creation, branding, and public relations efforts.
  • Ensure consistent, mission-aligned representation across all channels—print, digital, events, and earned media.
  • Team and Vendor Management
  • Directly supervise and mentor department leaders.
  • Provide strategic guidance and oversight to external vendors, consultants, and contractors in marketing and fundraising.
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and mission-driven team culture.
  • Volunteer and Community Engagement
  • Support and oversee strategies to grow and sustain volunteer engagement and community partnerships.
  • Guide messaging and systems for volunteer recognition and communication.

Budget and Reporting

  • Partner with Finance to develop, monitor, and manage budgets for development and marketing functions.
  • Establish and report on KPIs for fundraising, marketing ROI, donor retention, and engagement.
  • Board and Executive Collaboration
  • Serve as a thought partner to the President and Executive Team; attend board and committee meetings as appropriate.
  • Provide strategic updates and data-driven insights to board and leadership on development and marketing progress.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or fundraising certification preferred.
  • Minimum 7–10 years of progressive leadership in development with a track record of success.
  • Marketing experience.
  • Strong experience managing teams, supervising external vendors, and developing integrated strategies.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Proficient in donor databases, digital marketing tools, Microsoft Office and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and manage staff and projects toward measurable outcomes.
  • Deep commitment to the mission of Next Door.
  • Willingness to work evenings/weekends as needed and travel locally.
  • Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle with required insurance coverage.

Salary Range: $100,000 - $120,000
