Reporting to the Creative Services Director, the Senior Manager, Creative Design oversees the creative produced by the Graphic Designers for the print and digital related materials to support franchisees and corporate departments in their marketing efforts. Responsible for all in-store merchandising creative, promotions, menu board support, packaging and brand communications within the store environment and corporate initiatives.

Primary Accountabilities:

Oversight, Project Management and Coordination of Creative Design Projects:

  • Manage all stages of creative for Dairy Queen and Orange Julius, for both US and Canada. Establish the creative approach, ensure quality photography and illustration and oversee all pre-press production and printing. 
  • Work closely with Food & Treat Brand Marketing Team, Canadian Brand Marketing Team, and other cross-functional teams. Solicit feedback and gain acceptance of the concepts and materials presented. 
  • Creative projects to include quarterly in-store kits, monthly digital menu boards, local store marketing, digital animations, reader boards, digital photography for DQ.com/DQ Mobile App, packaging and additional corporate projects as needed. 
  • Uphold the master brand logo standards and guideline. Review POP created by 3rd party vendors, agencies, and franchisees to ensure compliance with graphic guidelines. Oversee the design and production of corporate publications and meeting materials for internal and external distribution, such as the World of DQ, the DQ Connect materials and other collateral as needed. 
  • IDQ special projects for cross-functional departments. 
  • Ensure effective and professional communications occurs between the Creative Services department, Brand Team, Mar/Com, R&D, Meeting & Travel and other IDQ departments. 
  • Supervise and direct the workflow of creative projects within the Creative Services department. Direct outside resources when needed. 
  • Ensure all projects are completed on-time and within budget. 
  • Drive the creative review process, timelines, planning and for creative executions. 
  • Photography management for planning, scheduling, timelines and staff. 
  • Coordinate and review third party executions of the quarterly kit. 
  • Manage third party print vendor for items available for franchisees. 
  • Work with the DQ legal department on trademark and photography reviews. 
  • Provide accurate information and trademark review of POP materials created by outside agencies or franchisees.

Hands-On Creative Design:

  • Hands on creative/design executions as needed.

Managerial Duties:

  • Manage a team of approximately three professional Graphic Designers, in the areas of design and digital menu board production. 
  • Designer projects to include quarterly in-store kits, monthly digital menu boards, local store marketing, digital animations, reader boards, digital photography for DQ.com/DQ Mobile App and additional corporate projects as needed. 
  • Coach, manage, challenge, and develop Creative Services Graphic Designers.

Education & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Arts degree in Marketing, Graphic Design or related field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience. 
  • A minimum of 10+ years of progressive experience in marketing design and production 
  • Must have a minimum of 3-5+ years of experience managing creative design employees. 
  • Experience working within a franchisor organization, preferably a QSR brand. 
  • Advanced Macintosh computer skills in programs including Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe InDesign. 
  • Creative thinker who can quickly develop innovative ideas to solve problems or reduce costs. 
  • Relationship building skills with the ability to create mutually beneficial relationships with both internal and external clients. 
  • Ability to be a team leader and facilitate brainstorming sessions. 
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to articulate design concepts to a variety of audiences. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Strong ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple projects and requests simultaneously, within an intense, deadline-driven environment. 
  • Well organized with a high attention to detail and accuracy. 
  • Provide excellent customer service to both internal and external clients. 
  • Ability to work quickly in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions. 
  • Ability to coordinate with IDQ departments to complete projects on time.
