Invenergy LLC, a leading clean energy company and the nations largest independent wind power generation company, is seeking a Chicago-based Senior Manager of Public Relations. This individual will assist with the companys internal and external communications strategies, and support Invenergys public affairs, government relations, operations and business development efforts. The Senior Manager of Public Relations will report to the Director of Public Affairs and coordinate closely with internal teams such as Development, Sales and Marketing, Operations, and Public Affairs to support their respective missions, with the goal of implementing a strategy that creates good will for the brand, increases brand awareness, generates inbound sales leads, encourages collaboration, improves engagement, and improves public perception.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with development of and support implementation of the Public Affairs strategy. 
  • Help ensure consistency of information across all company communication platforms. 
  • Support the attainment of business objectives through communications that improve organizational effectiveness and enhance employee alignment with operating priorities. 
  • Support various company departments as needed with regard to communications, messaging, and tactical efforts. 
  • Provide media relations support, including fielding reporter inquiries,serving as an on-the-record and on-background spokesperson, and coordinating media response as needed 
  • Maintain and enhance external leadership reputation and credibility. 
  • Position corporate executives as industry thought leaders by identifying, preparing and submitting speaking abstracts resulting in the placement of executives as key speakers on industry panels and workshop events. 
  • Assist with writing press releases, social media, internal company announcements, and collateral materials. 
  • Keep abreast of company priorities and activities, as well as news and current events relevant to Invenergy.

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Contribute to corporate event execution for internal and external initiatives. 
  • Create and maintain media lists to support business initiatives. 
  • Help with maintenance/updating of corporate website, intranet, and collateral materials. 
  • Actively monitor media (new and traditional) and send important mentions to colleagues. 
  • Develop and cultivate relationships with key external influencers, including media and public leaders. 
  • Ensure speeches, presentations and information match corporate messaging. 
  • Coordinate staff representation at external events, including conferences and nonprofit events.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • A BS or BA from an accredited college program. Communications, journalism, or liberal arts degrees preferred, with a minimum of 5-10 years of professional experience in corporate communications, news media, public relations or public affairs. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). 
  • Knowledge of publishing software a plus. 
  • Outstanding, organizational, verbal, and interpersonal communications writing skills. 
  • Strong project management skills and ability to multi-task and work under pressure, yet with attention to detail. 
  • Team player with a can-do attitude (no job is too small or too large). 
  • Well organized and able to work well in a fast-paced, changing environment. 
  • Knowledge of, and interest in, current events and news media is required. 
  • Energy industry familiarity is preferred. 
  • Flexibility to work a non-standard schedule when needed, including nights and weekends. 
  • Proven track record for strategic employee communications program visioning, planning, execution and measurement. 
  • Capacity to prioritize multiple complex projects on tight deadlines, while paying careful attention to detail. 
  • Ability to translate complex concepts and ideas into clearly written communications. 
  • Familiarity and interest in issues related to energy, economics, the environment, corporate citizenship.
