In addition to developing a treatment for SMA, AveXis also plans to develop other novel treatments for rare neurological diseases, including Rett syndrome and a genetic form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis caused by mutations in the superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) gene.

The Senior Manager, Site Communication leads the strategy and execution of internal and external communications for all of AveXis’ manufacturing sites, including supporting the Technical Operations and Quality organizations.

Responsibilities:

  • Communicates across sites and developing content for company channels. 
  • Lead strategy and implementation of manufacturing site communications, inspiring and engaging internal stakeholders. 
  • Create connections between sites and functions, making everyone feel part of the same team virtually. 
  • Support Technical Operations, Quality and site leaders with internal and external communications needs. 
  • Create engaging content and experiences, delivered via channels such as town hall meetings, intranet articles, social media, etc. 
  • Contribute content to corporate channels and act as seamless part of the Corporate Communications team, contributing on other corporate initiatives as needed. 
  • While primarily internal communications focused, partner with AveXis and Novartis communications leaders on external speaking engagements support or media relations activities, as needed. 
  • Maintain communication with all levels of management and employees, often dealing with confidential information. 
  • Other Related duties as assigned.
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications or related discipline. 
  • 10 years of internal and/or biopharmaceutical/healthcare communications experience. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Demonstrated experience in healthcare communications, preferably experience with both internal and external communications in a technical field. 
  • Comfortable working in an entrepreneurial environment; in other words, a hands-on, roll up the sleeves approach will be essential. Strong focus on operational and strategic skills. 
  • Team player who thrives in a fast-paced organization and who is able to think outside the box and make decisions, sometimes with limited information. 
  • Resourceful problem-solver and self-starter, with the appetite to deliver results while dealing with ambiguity. 
  • Reflects the Company core values – Integrity, Teamwork and Tenacity – and possesses a genuine care for patients with a desire to make a meaningful difference in their lives. 
  • Demonstrated competency in establishing key relationships and supporting internal clients and colleagues remotely.

  • Must be a well-organized, high energy, detail oriented, and persistent communicator with the ability to identify/focus on key issues, prioritize efforts, and ensure follow up with timely/quality results. 
  • Travel is estimated to be up to 25% (getting to each site monthly).

The level of this position will be based on the final candidate’s qualifications.
