The Senior Media and Public Relations Coordinator supports the development and maintenance of media and public relations campaigns and contributes to the development and execution of comprehensive public and media relations strategies. In accordance with the organization’s strategic plan, the position is responsible for demonstrating the value of the neurologist with the public.

ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Media Relations

  • Drafts, edits, and distributes high-quality communications materials, including press releases, statements, op-eds, talking points, matte releases, web content, and social media messaging
  • Coordinates national and international media requests including topic experts, scientific studies, press releases, and other information accordingly
  • Proactively pitches ground-breaking research, public events, and other announcements
  • Monitors and analyzes media clips daily
  • Tracks issues in neurology and maintain issues management systems
  • Advises internal stakeholders of communications strategies to meet business objectives from a strong communication and public relations perspective
  • Stays up to date on neurology, medical, and advocacy topics that are percolating in the media and communicate with stakeholders
  • Develops and maintains relationships with patient organizations and the public

Communications

  • Builds, maintains, and enhances relationships with internal stakeholders, physicians, journalists, and public relations representatives
  • Responds quickly and effectively in the event of a crisis or negative press coverage; prepares response strategy in conjunction with key stakeholders

Reporting

  • Manages monthly media coverage reporting
  • Oversees the relationship with third-party monitoring service

Video Production

  • Produces in-house videos including script writing, story boards, and coordinating with editorial, design, and video teams

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations or related area of study is required
  • Equivalent combination of additional experience beyond the minimum requirement and/or education may be substituted for degree requirement

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of related work experience in a communications and/or public relations support role is required
  • Experience writing press releases is preferred
  • Medical writing experience is preferred
  • Experience working at an agency is preferred
  • Project management experience is preferred

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including proficient use of AP style is required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of media monitoring services is required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices for media measurement and analytics is required
  • Strong customer service skills are required
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while working under tight deadlines is required
  • Strong organizational skills are required
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required
  • Ability to handle confidential information is required
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Power Point is required
