Position Summary:

As a practitioner and Media Relations lead, position is responsible for generating rich, engaging earned media coverage of the Company in areas that will make the biggest impact with customers and stakeholders, driving business results and brand awareness. Elevate the Company's public profile through the strategic pursuit of media, thought leadership and speaking opportunities among target publications, audiences and markets.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Applying extensive media relations experience, work with key leaders and managers to recommend, plan and implement broad-based communications strategies for critical company policies, projects and programs, and key communications strategies to engage regional and national news media. Counsel and train corporate officers, key managers and spokespersons regarding news media strategies. 
  • Craft company news releases and other strategic communications for external and internal audiences. Provide safety and customer services messages on an around-the-clock basis, if necessary, through the appropriate sharing of after-hours and on-call duties. Monitor and analyze news media coverage of the Company and other energy-related issues. Advise company management on suggested courses of action. 
  • Provide strategic communication counsel to executives and pursue speaking engagements and PR opportunities to position leadership on the local and national stage. 
  • Collaborate with other media relations representatives on corporate initiatives, projects and messaging. 
  • Manage necessary administrative functions.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism or communications. 
  • Seven years of experience in media relations or public relations required. 
  • Experience in utility company media relations, as a reporter or work in a newsroom is highly desirable.
