The Social Media & Digital Specialist will manage our social media accounts, be the voice of WAA and UW Foundation in social channels and monitor social media trends and analytics. You’ll also lead the development of content for digital channels to support the WFAA brands, organizational marketing and communication priorities.

Essential Functions:

  • Social media and community management (40%)
  • Manage UWF and WAA’s corporate presence on social media platforms; interact with constituents on social platforms to support marketing and customer service priorities.
  • Extend marketing strategy into digital and social touch points.
  • Engage in conversations with alumni to increase brand affinity, engagement and likelihood of alumni involvement in UWF or WAA activities.
  • Apply technology and analytics to identify trends and deliver superior customer service to key constituents in social media.  

Digital content creation and management (40%)

  • Manage editorial calendar for digital content on websites and social media accounts (uwalumni.com, supportuw.org, @WisAlumni, @BuckyBadger, @UWFoundation).
  • Ensure digital content schedules align with email and other marketing efforts.
  • Strategize, develop and execute concepts and plans for digital content.
  • Create and curate digital content including written stories, digital photography and video.
  • Collaborate with editorial leads to identify and produce stories for digital channels.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to design and develop content based on marketing objectives and strategic communications priorities.
  • Transform content created for print to be well-formatted for and successful in digital channels.
  • Deploy content to a strategic mix of social media channels, leveraging the unique aspects of each channel.
  • Publish web content.

Digital/Social Strategy (15%)

  • Serve as a digital strategist for priority projects and cross-functional teams.
  • Implement content strategies to deliver unique digital and social interactions beyond traditional marketing and communications campaigns.
  • Apply expertise regarding channel characteristics to achieve maximum reach among alumni and donor audiences.
  • Measure engagement metrics for priority campaigns on digital platforms.
  • Strategize and lead efforts where social platforms are the primary driver of engagement and activity.

Other duties (5%)

  • Maintain high awareness of trends and best practices in digital marketing, communications, and social media.
  • Measure and report on engagement metrics of key concepts, sites and social platforms.
  • Inform colleagues of developing trends and industry best practices.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree required with emphasis or certifications in mass communications, marketing, journalism, public relations or related field.
  • Minimum of one year experience required including experience producing digital content and managing social accounts for a small-medium sized organization.
  • High language skills, intermediate mathematical skills, high reasoning ability.
  • Microsoft Office; Social media platforms and management suites; WordPress; Google Analytics; Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Intermediate HTML and CSS experience.
  • Strong journalistic, storytelling and marketing intuition; ability to identify and react to trending topics.
  • Self-starter who can recognize or create opportunities and move quickly to capitalize on them.
  • Responsive and effective communicator who can keep colleagues and alumni engaged through compelling conversations.
  • Above-average written and oral communications skills; demonstrated creativity and attention to detail.
  • Ability to organize, multitask and meet very distinct deadlines. Demonstrated ability to produce and publish content for the web.
  • Knowledge of and passion for UW-Madison and higher education; understanding of key issues affecting UW-Madison.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently or serve as a cross-functional teammate and collaborate effectively with program and marketing teams.
  • Combination of sitting, standing, walking, frequent hand/wrist repetitions and frequent fine motor movements.
  • High written and oral language skills; intermediate mathematical skills; high reasoning ability; high-paced, multi-tasking environment.
