Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) invites applications for a full-time Social Media and Marketing Specialist to join our Marketing Communications team. The Social Media and Marketing Specialist provides social media, multimedia and marketing communications support to advance MSOE’s strategic campaigns and priorities. This role is responsible for MSOE’s main institutional social media accounts, and development of the MSOE social media calendar. In addition, this role provides written, visual, and marketing project support to the Office of University Advancement. The individual works collaboratively with key university stakeholders to create effective marketing communications that portray a clear, strong, and unified image of the university while driving alumni and donor engagement and fund-raising growth.

Essential Job Functions

  • As a member of the MSOE Marketing Communications team and under the direction of the Associate Director of Advancement Marketing and Senior Director of Communications and Media Relations, this individual works to deliver a strong, consistent, and cohesive brand identity and voice across all communications. Support the university advancement annual plan through the creation and modification of high-quality marketing collateral including print, video, digital, web, social media and event-related communications that follow brand guidelines. 
  • Leads MSOE’s social media efforts to key constituent groups (including alumni, parents and families, donors, and corporate partners) to drive audience growth and engagement. Plans, creates, and executes content for MSOE’s owned institutional social media channels. Monitors comments and responds to inquiries on social media. This individual also collaborates with agency partners to ensure alignment between organic content efforts and paid campaigns. This includes acting as the point of contact for MSOE social media to advise administrators of university-affiliated accounts and coordinating user generated content across the MSOE community. 
  • Support Associate Director of Advancement Marketing with coordination of all advancement communications, including marketing collateral, advancement web content management and social media for our alumni channels. Proactively manage the annual calendar for development and alumni relations projects, and assist in the development of all marketing materials that support University Advancement. Model MSOE’s strategic commitment to being extraordinary through continuous improvement and by conducting ongoing assessments of communications to adapt and improve their effectiveness. 
  • Defines digital Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) and reports to key stakeholders, as necessary. Maintains knowledge of industry standards and best practices to stay ahead of trends and inform business decisions specific to social media, ensuring the business' online presences are best-in-class. 
  • Assist in the development of advancement-focused marketing campaigns and communication sequences to positively position and promote the university and its mission to key constituent groups. Prepare periodic reports for leadership to measure campaign effectiveness and identify opportunities for growth. 
  • Monitor higher education advancement and alumni relations marketing trends, tools, and opportunities, and apply them to MSOE, when appropriate, to further enhance the university’s marketing communications presence. 
  • This individual may occasionally be required to work outside of regular business hours to provide social media coverage of special events or to respond to potential social media crises.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, or related area of study. 
  • 3+ years of experience in social content development/strategy and social community management experience. 
  • Higher education, development/fundraising and/or nonprofit experience is beneficial but not required. 
  • Knowledge of and experience in Adobe Creative Suite: InDesign, Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator, as well as Microsoft Word and Excel, and Sprout Social or similar social media management platforms. Experience designing for web, digital or interactive platforms is a plus. 
  • Requires excellent written and oral communication skills including the ability to articulate technical information to a non-technical population. Requires the ability to communicate and respond to both internal and external customers professionally and in a timely manner. Must have strong writing and editing skills and pay particular attention to detail when creating content. Must have the ability to read, interpret, write, create, and complete documents such as reports, newsletters, general correspondence, and training materials or guidelines. 
  • Requires strong project management skills, attention to detail, strong organizational competence, and the ability to coordinate multiple deadlines simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. Must be able to work with frequent interruptions and professionally respond to variations in schedules and plans. Must be self-directed with strong problem-solving skills including the ability to develop innovative approaches and ideas and meet challenges with resourcefulness.

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is largely sedentary, the ability to move is required. The employee is occasionally required to traverse within their work area as well as other areas on campus.

  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
