Position Summary:

The primary function of this position is to execute a specific social media strategy that leverages social media tools and online platforms to: generate awareness of Girl Scouts of Southeast Wisconsin and the impact of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience for girls and their communities; engage prospective members, current members and alumnae in meaningful conversations; cultivate new communities; and manage branded online communities on behalf of GSWISE.

The Social Media Manager will provide relevant content to better inform community members, develop and track appropriate metrics and meticulously monitor the social environment for conversations. The Social Media Manager will also serve as a social ambassador in the organization to embed a social mentality into our culture. In addition, the Social Media Manager will assist with public relations and media relations primarily in a designated area of the council.

Major Accountabilities:

  • Create & maintain an up-to-date social marketing plan which complements the overall marketing plan for GSWISE. 
  • Manage significant portions of gswise.org and other sites which might be developed by GSWISE. 
  • Establish relationships with the online community by identifying key influences and communities that fit our online strategy 
  • Raise brand awareness and protect brand equity by executing a social marketing campaign using the most appropriate social media channels 
  • Write and pitch a variety of stories to a variety of outlets using a variety of platforms. 
  • Serve as an organization-wide resource to provide expertise for appropriate new media solutions and capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify, evaluate, select and monitor the most relevant social media channels 
  • Moderate and oversee our presence on relevant social media sites 
  • Identify and document social media best practices 
  • Assess online reputation management. 
  • Assist in pitching stories, writing press releases and establishing relationships with the media, with the primary focus of Racine, Kenosha, Waukesha and Washington Counties. 
  • Coordination of all email marketing/email mass communications done through Constant Contact, including editing and/or composing, contact management and scheduling mailings. 
  • With the Director of Marketing and Communications and Chief Brand Officer, maintain and update the social media policy and guidelines 
  • Assist in creating a social media training program and education for all employees 
  • Manage online discussions by listening and responding to users in a timely and authentic manner 
  • Ensure consistent messaging is used online across cross-functional departments and multiple contributors 
  • Assist in carrying out the work of the Marketing Plan.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, or related degree or 2 years in internet marketing, email marketing, internet media placement, marketing analysis or website management (Intranet and/or Internet) experience. 
  • Desirable past business experience includes: social marketing, search engine marketing, internet agency, internet project management, or public relations. 
  • Proven ability to successfully manage multiple, disparate streams of work in a challenging, dynamic environment. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of social media platforms including current (YouTube, StumbleUpon, Delicious, Digg, Reddit, Flickr, Forums, Twitter, Wikis, Facebook, blogs, etc.) and emerging channels to cultivate online communities. 
  • Able to meet deadlines and think innovatively. 
  • Excellent written (including copy writing and editing) and oral communication skills and polished presentation and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to work effectively with staff members and volunteers from diverse backgrounds. 
  • Strong customer orientation and grasp of marketing fundamentals 
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams. 
  • Proficient in conducting interviews and gathering content from subject matter experts (i.e. girls, leaders, volunteers, community partners, researchers). 
  • Demonstrated background in editorial and technical content development with the ability to craft content to web appropriate format. 
  • Proficient with MS Office. Working knowledge of technology involved to create podcasts, videos, and using tools to record, edit, and publish. 
  • Proficient in content management and the use of content management systems. 
  • Functional knowledge of HTML/CSS and SEO. 
  • Willingness to subscribe to the philosophy of the Girl Scout Program and enroll as a Girl Scout member. 
  • Have daily access to dependable transportation, valid driver’s license, compliance with the council’s policy of automobile insurance limits, and a driving record that meets the requirements for coverage of the council’s business auto insurance carrier. 
  • The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is required to sit at a computer work station for extended periods of time, occasionally required to stand for long periods, and operate office equipment manually. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

$40,600/year atarting annual salary.
