Primary Purpose:

Provide new media and public relations planning through development of or contribution to CHEST communication plans. Provide tactical support by curating, creating, and distributing social media content, public relations communications, and other content marketing collateral.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  1. Plan, develop, and curate CHEST, the journal CHEST, and CHEST Foundation social media and public relations content. (eg, press releases, pitching, social media posts,etc). Track and report results. 
  2. Implement social media strategies and tactics across all relevant social media platforms including: Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Spotify, Instagram, Google+, Snapchat, blogs, and others. Manage social advertising to reach campaign goals and organizational objectives. Boost social media posts that are performing well to increase reach. 
  3. Continuously evaluate media, advertising and promotional programs to determine whether they are effective and compatible with the organization’s mission. 
  4. Provide staff oversight for Social Media WorkGroup. 
  5. Support CHEST Foundation campaigns, including securing CHEST subject matter experts, communication plans, reporting and additional tasks associated with the campaign process.
  6. Manage day-to-day activity on social platforms, and coordinate the development of content (eg,videos for YouTube, cards for social, blogs,etc). Write content to reflect the CHEST brand voice, tone, and style. 
  7. Establish and maintain good-natured, cooperative relationships with the news media and other industry specific and/or public interest groups to enhance the organization’s voice and presence through online and offline channels. 
  8. Track and monitor the success of public relations and social media initiatives (ie, impressions, reach, engagement and influence), and provide reports as needed. Identify and report on trends to internal teams. Monitor mentions of CHEST and its leadership.
  9. Contribute to related communication vehicles, such as the CHEST Today ,CHEST NewsBrief, and Leadership Update to ensure active campaigns promoted across all channels and awareness building.
  10. Coordinate with the Marketing Communications team to contribute to the “one CHEST” marketing communication approach. This includes, but is not limited to, acting as liaison to other CHEST division(s) as assigned. Understand communication needs and report back to team, contributeto the development and execution of communication plans. Monitor campaigns in progress, suggest and facilitaterevisions to improve results when needed. Reporting final campaign results. Maintain the organization's corporate image and identity.

Other Functions/Activities:

  1. Assist with cross-functional marketing and communications projects as needed. 
  2. Complete other tasks and projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications and Competencies:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, communications, journalism, or related field. 
  2. 5+ years combined experience (ie, pre-degree experience, college internships, professional employment,etc) developing and executing effective social media and/or public relations and community outreach efforts in support of organizational strategic goals. 
  3. Experience with a variety of social media tools. Ability to capture and edit audio and video content for podcasts, video-casts, Facebook Live, YouTube, etc. 
  4. Ability to effectively manage and execute multiple projects of importance, often with conflicting deadlines. 
  5. Ability to lead a team of cross-divisional staff to meet a defined goal. 
  6. Commitment to a collaborative working environment. 
  7. Highly effective written and verbal communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to articulate technologic concepts to non-technical stakeholders and staff. 
  8. Ability to advocate for the use of social media tools and concepts to meet strategic goals.

Preferred Qualifications and Competencies:

  1. High level of competence with online analytic and monitoring tools
  2. Experience with HTML/CSS, content management systems, and Adobe design suite. Experience with Google AdWords, Twitter and Facebook advertising
