GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The social media specialist will stay on top of the social media trends. They need to be aware of what’s trending and what’s on the horizon in the ever-changing social media landscape. This position will report to the Director of Marketing and Analytics and will help to develop and implement Illinois Tech’s social media strategy, social media policy, and social media advertising plans, and will analyze all data to make sure the university is getting the best ROI on the social media plans.

COMMUNICATIONS

Excellent written and oral communication skills are required as well as the ability to move multiple projects on deadline. The ability to interact with faculty, staff, students is essential. This position will be working in multiple social media platforms including but not limited to: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok and Twitter. This position will also need a working knowledge of Google Apps (email, docs, forms) to share files with internal university clients including other M&C team members.

CUSTOMER SERVICE

The social media specialist will work with the Directory of Marketing and Analytics to provide strategic social media counsel to other members of the M&C team, and various other members of the Illinois Tech community. This position requires exceptional customer services and customer relationship management skills. The ability to develop and maintain long-term relationships with university clients, and outside vendors and to provide extraordinary value to all constituencies is essential.

Special Schedule Requirements: May need to work some nights and weekends to promote university events.

Key Responsibility: Working with the Director of Marketing and Analytics this position will develop content and implement measurable social media strategy and campaigns. Percentage Of Time 60.

Key Responsibility:  Increase social media engagement with all stakeholders, secure/mobilize a team of reliable and organized rapid responders/surrogates. Percentage Of Time: 20.

Key Responsibility: Monitor effective benchmarks (best practices) for measuring the impact of Social Media campaigns. Percentage Of Time 10.

Key Responsibility: Identify opportunities, trends, and features in the social media space. Percentage Of Time 5.

Key Responsibility: Work on additional projects as needed. Percentage Of Time 5.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, communications or related field required with a minimum of 2 years experience. Higher Education experience preferred.
  • At least one-year planning and managing social calendar required.

Knowledge & Skills:

Content Creation and Strategy

  • Ability to design social posts and create videos
  • Strong ability to read and translate data into action items for stakeholders
  • Able to strategize content with the goals of the department

Teamwork

  • Team player with initiative to move projects forward and collaborate with internal and external departments (i.e.: content development, creation and editing of content, and online reputation management)

Project Management and Communication

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with minimal supervision 
  • Track and report on campaign progress and results 
  • Excellent writing and language skills 
  • Must display ability to effectively communicate information and ideas in written and video format

SEO

  • Must maintain a working knowledge of principles of SEO including keyword research

Technical Skills

  • Experience with a scheduling platform such as Sprout, Later, or Hootsuite 
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
