The Social Media Specialist will increase Milwaukee Recreation brand recognition through the utilization of various social media platforms. Additionally, the individual will assist the Marketing Supervisor – Digital with various photography and digital marketing efforts as assigned. This position is a crucial part of the Milwaukee Recreation marketing team and will allow the team to reach new and existing customers through various channels.

As of November 1, 2021, all MPS employees are required to be fully vaccinated. The health and safety of our staff and students is our number one priority. As a result, all offers of employment are contingent on the candidate showing proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (currently one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine or two doses of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine) to pass the pre-employment requirements. POSITION SUMMARY:

  • Develop strategies, project plans, campaigns, and content that build audience and engagement foreach social media network to help meet institutional goals. 
  • Maintain a social media calendar that includes scheduled posts, as well as live coverage of events, including occasionally at night and on weekends. 
  • Work with Milwaukee Recreation marketing team members and Milwaukee Recreation full-time program staff to identify newsworthy highlights and relevant content for social media. 
  • Monitor all social conversations and respond when appropriate. 
  • Develop and execute strategies for increasing Milwaukee Recreation’s relevance to the community in our areas of expertise. 
  • Research, develop, and implement social media tools to support Milwaukee Recreation’s brand, strategic goals, and business objectives. 
  • Track, collect, and interpret relevant social media metrics while continually finding ways to improve on content. 
  • Join the marketing team’s ongoing effort to capture photos of Milwaukee Recreation classes, events, games, and locations. 
  • Edit photos with Adobe Photoshop or Lightroom, tag with keywords, and upload to our online photo database (Zenfolio). 
  • Additional responsibilities can be added based on candidate’s knowledge and prior work experience. 
  • Other marketing duties as assigned

SUPERVISION REQUIRED:

Works under the direction of the Marketing Supervisor – Digital

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Be at least 21 years of age. 
  • Able to meet the scheduling needs required for this position. 
  • Access to reliable transportation. 
  • Must possess a valid driver's license, good driving record, and the MPS required level of personal auto liability insurance.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, English, or a related field. 
  • Solid understanding of marketing and branding. 
  • Demonstrated experience building audiences through social networks. 
  • Writing, editing, and crafting branded content for the social media space. 
  • Strong analytical and data-driven thinking. 
  • The ability to communicate on social platforms in a consistent, on-brand voice. 
  • The ability to create content using multimedia tools, such as video, photography, and design.
  • Exceptional organizational, communication, and project management skills.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong writing and editing ability, along with the good judgment to represent a trusted nonprofit brand directly to the public. 
  • Understanding and knowledge of social media trends and best practices, and willingness to share that knowledge with others in the organization. 
  • Ability to foster positive working relationships. 
  • Excellent decision-making skills and the ability to carry out verbal and written instructions.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • This environment includes walking, climbing, standing for long periods of time, and possible loud noises when exposed to activities in the gym or similar environment.
