SUMMARY AND OBJECTIVE:

The Social Media Specialist is an entry-level position that provides a unique opportunity to strengthen skills in social media management and higher education marketing. We are looking for a detail-oriented, hardworking individual interested in assisting the Digital Marketing Director in planning, executing, and monitoring the Social Media strategy across the college’s various channels. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently, have a flexible schedule, generate visually-appealing and compelling social media content including photography and video, and confidently manage various social media channels. This a full-time position averaging about 35 hours a week. Will need to be available some evenings and weekends to document various events at the college.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Create new posts and/or find appropriate existing content to repost for social media. 
  • Work closely with the Communications and Marketing Strategy (CMS) team in the development of a social media plan across the college’s various social media channels. 
  • Create and maintain a detailed social media calendar while collaborating with the CMS team on the distribution and prioritization of MCAD stories and news. 
  • Attend various events at and related to the college (occasionally on nights and weekends) to document for social media and mcad.edu. 
  • Coordinate with MCAD departments, faculty, staff, students and alumni to gather social media content and assets. 
  • Create short videos about college-related activities and events and/or edit preexisting MCAD footage into new videos. 
  • Manage social media content daily and alert Director and Coordinator to any issues or comments that require response. 
  • Run regular social media audits and keep track of metrics/analytics for social media channels. Evaluate social media tools as necessary. 
  • Stay up to date with social media trends, best practices, and popular platforms. 
  • Assist with other marketing- and communications-related activities as needed. 
  • Other responsibilities as determined by Director of Digital Marketing.

SUPERVISORY:

  • This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a major in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, business administration or a related field preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Proven track record of social media proficiency; knowledge of Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc. 
  • Demonstrated experience of outstanding written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Fluency with Adobe Creative Suite 
  • Demonstrated aptitude for photography and composition; familiarity with photography, videography and film editing. 
  • Experience working with social media managing tools.

This position does not required any certifications or licensure.

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets.
