Milwaukee Downtown, BID (Business Improvement District) #21 is an organization established in 1998 to support the interests of the downtown Milwaukee business community. Through BID #21 assessments, Milwaukee Downtown funds specific initiatives aimed at creating a clean, safe and friendly downtown. The district currently manages 150 blocks representing approximately 500 commercial property owners.

Milwaukee Downtown, BID #21 is seeking a Special Events & Marketing Intern for fall/winter 2019. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to event coordination, social media management and administrative tasks.

As the Special Events & Marketing Intern your responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following: 

EVENT COORDINATION

21st Annual Milwaukee Holiday Lights Festival (November 21, 2019 – January 1, 2020)

Milwaukee Downtown, Business Improvement District #21 coordinates & executes Southeastern Wisconsin’s largest winter festival. For six weeks, downtown is full of holiday cheer as visitors and locals alike celebrate with the Kick-Off Extravaganza, Jingle Bus and Cocoa with the Clauses. Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Assist Marketing, Events & Social Media Director with the coordination of school participation in preparation for Milwaukee Holiday Lights Festival’s “Community Spirit Park”
  • Work directly with teachers, principals, and school officials to solicit participation in “Community Spirit Park” tree decorating
  • Maintain a current database of Milwaukee public and private schools
  • Assist with planning, preparation, and implementation of the Kick-Off event
  • Support Santa’s Mailbox promotions
  • Assist with the coordination and execution of Milwaukee Holiday Lights Festival VIP party
  • Assist with assembling prize packages

Additional Event Coordination 

May include supporting additional events, i.e.:

  • Milwaukee Downtown annual meeting
  • Random Acts of Kindness
  • MOTOR (Milwaukee’s Own Traveling Outdoor Resource) activations 

MARKETING

  • Draft Instagram posts for Marketing, Events & Social Media Director
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Events & Social Media Director for downtown’s social media outlets including, but not limited to: Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
  • Draft relevant blog content for Milwaukee Downtown blog
  • Maintain HR database and perform routine updates
  • Assist with media list updates
  • May assist with graphic design work if able 

OFFICE MANAGEMENT

  • Maintain databases, mailing list and vital records
  • Contribute to Milwaukee Downtown Shared/Intern Files
  • Prepared to professionally assist and answer questions, concerns, comments regarding Milwaukee Downtown via telephone, e-mail, or in-person
  • Assist with Board of Directors preparation, when asked by Marketing, Events & Social Media Director

Experience with events and social media marketing is preferred.

Your hourly wage will be $8.00 per hour up to a maximum of 20 hours per week. You will report to and receive instruction directly from the Marketing, Events & Social Media Director.
