Milwaukee Downtown, BID (Business Improvement District) #21 is an organization established in 1998 to support the interests of the downtown Milwaukee business community. Through BID #21 assessments, Milwaukee Downtown funds specific initiatives aimed at creating a clean, safe and friendly downtown. The district currently manages 150 blocks representing approximately 500 commercial property owners.

Our Mission is to lead and inspire believers in Milwaukee to engage in efforts that build Downtown as the thriving, sustainable, innovative, and vibrant heart of the community.

Are you a highly organized, fantastic communicator with a passion for Milwaukee? Do you love social media, event curation, and community building? If so, you may be a perfect fit! Milwaukee Downtown is hiring a Special Events and Marketing Intern for the Fall and Winter seasons.

As the Special Events & Marketing Intern your responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

EVENT COORDINATION

23rd Annual Milwaukee Holiday Lights Festival | November 18, 2021 – January 1, 2022

Milwaukee Downtown, Business Improvement District #21 coordinates & executes Southeastern Wisconsin’s largest winter festival. For six weeks, downtown is full of holiday cheer as visitors and locals alike safely celebrate the season. This year, revised versions of favorite events will ensure health and safety are maximized for all event participants. A combination of virtual and in-person, distanced events will comprise this year’s program.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • General Holiday Lights support, preparation, and planning
  • Assist Marketing, Events & Social Media Director with the coordination of school participation in Community Spirit Park, including maintaining database of participants and all relevant details
  • Research and coordinate gift boxes / gift bags for multiple events
  • Promotion and logistics for Santa’s Mailbox Development of Jingle Bus digital content / supplementary material
  • Support Holiday Lights Kick-Off logistics as needed 
  • Event assistance at onsite events (Cocoa with the Clauses, Kick-off filming, etc.)
  • Proof Holiday Lights collateral and messaging

Additional Event Coordination:

  • May include supporting Random Acts of Kindness, Milwaukee Downtown’s Annual Meeting, and/or other events as-needed.

MARKETING

  • Collaborate with Marketing, Events, & Social Media Director on Milwaukee Downtown’s social media outlets including, but not limited to, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
  • Write and publish relevant blog content for Milwaukee Downtown blog
  • Maintain HR database and perform routine updates 
  • Assist with webpage updates
  • May assist with graphic design work if able
  • May assist with photography work if able, using BID camera

OFFICE MANAGEMENT

  • Maintain databases, mailing lists, and vital records
  • Be prepared to professionally assist and answer questions, concerns, and comments regarding Milwaukee Downtown via telephone, email, and social media Assist with Board of Directors preparation when applicable
  • A passion for community work, social media, event production, and all things Milwaukee.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • English, Marketing, Journalism, and/or Communication majors encouraged to apply
  • Current university and/or recent graduates preferred

Part-time internship at $10/hour, up to 20 hours / week.
