Established in 1983, Real Racine (formerly known as the Racine County Convention and Visitors Bureau) is the accredited 501c-6 non-profit destination marketing organization that oversees tourism promotion and development in Racine County.
Real Racine's mission is to promote and advocate for the development of Racine County as an attractive visitor destination to enhance the local economy.
It is funded in large part by a portion of the eight-percent room tax that is collected on stays of less than 30 days by lodging properties in Mount Pleasant, Racine, Caledonia, Yorkville, Waterford and Burlington. It is governed by a 16-member board of directors.
Real Racine operates the Visitor Center (located just west of I-94/Highway 20 interchange) and promotes to five distinct markets: leisure, meetings/conventions, group tours, sports and international. It produces and promotes special events that attract thousands of visitors each year including the Color Run, EVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour, Ironman 70.3 Racine triathlon and Badger State Games beach volleyball.
Real Racine currently has five full-time employees and seven part time employees. These positions are supplemented by approximately 20 volunteers.
The manager is responsible for the overall recruitment, development and execution of Real Racine-sponsored special events, including, Ironman 70.3 Racine triathlon, EVP Pro Beach Volleyball tournament, Open House Racine County and the Antique and Classic Boat Society Convention & Show. The manager will develop ways to enhance the participant event experience, improve event profitability, increase hotel overnight stays and grow economic impact of the events throughout the county. The manager will also be responsible for representing Real Racine as part of the Sports Wisconsin statewide sports tourism organization and attend the National Association of Sports Commissions annual symposium.
