Medtronic is looking for a detail-oriented self-starter to join the Global Communications and Corporate Marketing team as a Specialist, Public Relations and Issues Management. This is a highly visible role working with stakeholders both within and outside of Medtronic. In this role, you will develop and manage effective operating mechanisms and processes for the Public Relations and Issues Management team,develop and deliver efficient and effective operating mechanisms and processes for the External Communications and Executive Thought Leadership functions within Corporate Communications.

A global function, this role supports US time zones and is intended to be a hybrid position with key stakeholders and partners in Minneapolis, MN. We will prioritize talent over location. Qualified applicants who are remote are encouraged to apply.

Travel required for this role is expected to be less than 10 percent.

A Day in the Life

Reporting to theSenior Director, External Communications, your day-to-day activities will spanPublic Relations & Issues Management where you will:

  • Oversee global media policy, including necessary updates and socialization with internal partners. 
  • Manage enterprise awards strategy, including internal partner coordination and external submissions for key awards. 
  • Maintain issues tracker to ensure visibility to current issues. 
  • Lead process for news alerts, including coordination with internal partners and liaising with external vendor for posting. 
  • Provide backup support for enterprise news releases, including internal reviews and approvals and external distribution. 
  • Support playbook development as needed, in service of internal partner needs. 
  • Simplify and improve processes across Public Relations & Issues Management to improve speed and agility. 
  • Cultivate collaborative relationships. 
  • Assist with media monitoring and coverage/trend reports as needed.

Must-Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations
  • 2 years of experience in PR

Nice to Have

  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships across a variety of functions and with all levels of management and employees. 
  • Preference for agency work experience. 
  • Strong interpersonal and written communications skills. 
  • Ability and willingness to work during off-peak hours as needed. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 suite. 
  • Experience managing multiple projects with competing deadlines. 
  • Ability to effectively influence internal and external partners and excel under pressure. 
  • Exceptional project management and organizational skills. 
  • Experience with media monitoring. 
  • Strong attention to detail; established editing and proofreading skills and adherence to internal style guidelines. 
  • Experience working in a complex, matrixed, global communications function.
