The Public Affairs and Media Relations Senior Associate will be a valued member of SC Johnson’s larger high-performing Global Corporate Affairs, Communications, and Sustainability Team. Reporting to the Vice President of Global Public Affairs and supporting the Global Public Affairs and Media Relations Manager, the ideal candidate for this role will be a passionate, quick, and creative copywriter and storyteller who aspires to learn more about earned and paid media strategy. The ideal candidate is proficient in media monitoring and editing written and verbal communications. If you are a grammar whiz and always ready with a clever turn of phrase – this job is for you! Our new teammate must be organized in tracking incoming media requests and building journalist distribution lists. The person in this role will be willing to jump in and help all functions of the larger communications team including media, digital, content, events, and community affairs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Craft creative press releases about SC Johnson corporate initiatives. 
  • Edit written and verbal communications for external use. 
  • Utilize technology to assist in wide-ranging media monitoring. 
  • Track, organize, and research media requests. 
  • Develop relationships with key local, national, and global media. 
  • Pull media reports as requested by departments within the company. 
  • Work closely with the Global Public Affairs and Media Relations Manager on overall corporate reputation and strategy.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, Government, or related corporate field. 
  • Minimum of 2 years communication experience in corporate, government, and/or PR agency

PREFERRED EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS

  • Strong writing and editing capabilities.
  • Media database understanding is a plus. 
  • Basic Excel and PowerPoint Knowledge. 
  • Interest in world news and events. 
  • Team-centered attitude. 
  • Willingness to learn about all forms of communications. 
  • Knowledge in sustainability and public health is a bonus. 
  • Able to build relationships with key internal and external stakeholders 
  • High level of professional integrity and discretion
