Sr. Communication Specialist

Do you have a passion for social media strategy? Starkey is seeking a Senior Communications Specialist to join our Corporate Communications team. This position will work in Marketing to ensure strategic social communications plans and campaigns are developed and integrated for Starkey’s B2B and B2C audiences. These activities will be integrated with Starkey’s overall marketing activities and company communications. This role collaborates closely across teams, including creative, sales, product marketing, Human Resources, events and executive leadership. This role is located in Eden Prairie, but will work remotely until further notice due to the COVID pandemic. A writing test will be required for candidates interviewing for this role.

Performance of Duties:

  • Lead and execute ongoing social media strategy in collaboration with internal partners (including sales, product marketing, HR, events and executive leadership) and editorial calendar. 
  • Develop and optimize integrated social media strategy using a holistic approach, taking into account marketing department goals, customer needs and calendar cadence and overall company strategies. 
  • Create and manage organic and paid social media content, including identifying needs, briefing, writing, collaborating with creative department to build assets, deployment, and optimizing. 
  • Engage with social media community, including responding to comments and questions.
  • Collaborate with internal partners, such as customer service, to provide accurate information. 
  • Provide analysis and recommendations for optimization based on metrics.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Collaborate closely with colleagues across owned, earned, paid and social media, to ensure consistency in messaging across multiple platforms and to identify efficiencies for creation and distribution of content. 
  • Work closely with internal partners to develop and refine messaging and email lists based on target audiences. 
  • Stay abreast of changing social media trends, algorithms and strategies. 
  • Success will be measured by growth in metrics specific to social media, including engagement rates overall size of community.

Minimum Education, Certification and Experience Requirements:

  • Education: Degree in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, Business or related field
  • Experience: 5-7 years progressive experience in Public Relations, Communications or Marketing or similar required 
  • 3-5 years of social media experience preferred 
  • Healthcare industry experience preferred


  • Knowledge of computer tools required 
  • Knowledge of market analysis tools required 
  • Knowledge of media databases and media monitoring tools

Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills in English required 
  • Ability to work and travel independently as required 
  • Strong working understanding of social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram required 
  • Comfortable executing “live” social media. 
  • Experience writing for B-to-B, B-to-C and internal audiences preferred 
  • Experience with tools such as Social Bakers, Sprout, HubSpot, Microsoft Outlook, Excel, etc. preferred 
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management skills; able to prioritize, multi-task and meet expected deadlines. 
  • Analytical problem solving, curiosity and a continuous improvement mindset 
  • Strong ability to collaborate with team members required
