This position provides public relations, media relations, social media and communications support around Thrivent’s strategic priorities and “run-the-business” initiatives. The incumbent creates and distributes external communications that build awareness of and affinity for Thrivent’s thought leadership, programs, products and services, while also protecting the organization’s trusted reputation. The role provides communications support and guidance to leaders, employees and others across the organization to ensure the delivery of relevant, timely messages to multiple external audiences. Works independently, with key business partners and at the direction of Communications leaders to create and share communication through traditional media, social media and new media platforms.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops communication plans, including detailed time and action plans, supporting strategic priorities and “run-the-business” initiatives. 
  • Concepts, writes and edits press releases, talking points, media advisories, social media content and other planned communications for multiple external audiences. 
  • Provides social media support as needed. 
  • Possesses and applies a deep level of understanding of the interests and motivators of members of the target audiences; positions communication to meet the content and information needs of receivers. 
  • Can effectively create communication for distribution in multiple communications channels. 
  • Works independently, with key business partners and at the direction of communications leaders to create and distribute communications. 
  • Tracks team and individual performance measures and reports performance.

Required Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, marketing or related field required 
  • Five years’ experience (minimum) in agency/business/corporate communications 
  • Knowledge of social media management 
  • Strong writing, editing and communication planning skills 
  • Strong project management and organizational skills 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, tact, judgment, listening and consulting 
  • Knowledge of the financial services industry preferred 
  • Prior financial writing experience preferred

  • Strong planning and implementation skills 
  • Strong communication skills, ability to present ideas well both in writing and orally 
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other communicators and business partners
