The Wisconsin Union is a financially self-supporting division of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Financial support for the organization is provided by income earned by dining units and a variety of non-food units such as recreation, guest rooms and space rentals. Substantial support is also provided by student fees. The Wisconsin Union has an annual operating budget of $56 million and employs nearly 250 full-time staff and 1500 student staff in the departments of Program & Leadership, Hospitality Services, Facilities, Administration and the Office of the Director. In addition, over 300 student volunteers and 2,000 club members under the Wisconsin Union Directorate (WUD) produce over 2,000 programs annually.

Student Engagement Marketing Account Specialist

The Wisconsin Union Marketing/Communications Department supports the operational, administrative and program/service marketing and communication goals of the Student Leadership and Engagement division of Student Affairs. This includes Center for Leadership and Involvement, Fraternity and Sorority Life, Student Affairs Advancement, The Wisconsin Union, and UW Conference Centers.

The Student Engagement Marketing Specialist position supports both administrative offices and student led events and programs. Responsibilities include creating marketing, advertising and communication materials and campaigns for the offices of Community Engagement, Fraternity and Sorority Life and Center for Leadership and Involvement. This position also provides training, advising, and mentoring, to student leaders on marketing/advertising best practices that support the student-led events and programs of the Wisconsin Union Directorate, Wisconsin Singers and the Homecoming Committee.

Along with other marketing/communications team members, this position participates in the planning and execution of seasonal community-wide events and initiatives including but not limited to Wisconsin Welcome Week, Badger Bash, Terrace season, Winter Carnival, Commencement weekend.

The position reports to the Wisconsin Union Director of Marketing and works collaboratively with student leaders, advisors, managers, and other unit personnel within the respective areas.

Contributes to strategy development and implements marketing projects in support of institutional or unit marketing goals.

30% - Develops, implements, and maintains strategic marketing plans based on research and established strategies

25% - Develops, implements, and disseminates marketing materials through various communication mediums utilizing appropriate technologies and techniques

25% - Collects, analyzes, prepares, summarizes, and disseminates data and trends relevant to ongoing or future marketing activities

10% - Recruit, train, supervise, instruct, and educate student marketing interns.

10% - Provide training, advising, and mentoring on marketing/advertising best practices to student leaders.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

  • Minimum of three years of professional experience or its equivalent in marketing, advertising or communication required.


  • Bachelor's Degree 
  • Marketing, Advertising, Communications, Public Relations or related field.
