The Journalism, Advertising, and Media Studies (JAMS) Program offers a B.A. in undergraduate concentrations in Journalism, Advertising/Public Relations, and/or Media Studies. JAMS is part of the Communication Department.

The mission of the JAMS program is to prepare our students to thrive as knowledgeable, ethical, and skilled professionals within dynamic media industries and connected fields. The JAMS curriculum emphasizes thinking and communicating clearly, critically, and creatively, while developing applicable skills and technological proficiencies. We strive to foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment that encourages collaboration and diversity of thought, promotes hands-on experiences and values active engagement with the community. Our goal is to empower our students to become principled and effective communicators who are equipped to navigate the complexities of contemporary media terrains with integrity and excellence.
The JAMS program at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee invites applications to fill a fixed-term position teaching classes related to the advertising and public relations concentration. The appointment will start on August 25, 2025. We are seeking an instructional academic staff member to teach classes such as Introduction to Advertising and Public Relations, Advertising and Public Relations Writing and Production, Research for Advertising and Public Relations, and/or Advertising and Public Relations Campaigns. The applicant should also be able to teach general program courses such as Introduction to Mass Media and Social Media courses. Additionally, the applicant will have an expectation of program service including serving on committees and advising students, as well as producing creative professional work related to their area of expertise.

This is a fixed-term, renewable appointment. The typical teaching load is three courses per semester, plus the expectation of service to the Program, Department and/or University.

Minimum Qualifications:        

  • Bachelor’s degree in Advertising, Public Relations, Media Communication or related field with minimum of 10 years’ experience in advertising, public relations or related field, preferably in an agency, nonprofit or corporate setting OR Master’s degree and/or terminal degree with minimum of five years’ experience in advertising, public relations or related field, preferably in an agency, nonprofit or corporate setting.
  • Writing and/or production experience in the advertising and/or public relations industries.
  • Experience with social media practices in advertising and public relations contexts. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s and/or terminal degree.
  • College-level teaching experience.
  • Ability to integrate strategic, creative and tactical applications in both advertising and public relations.
  • Experience with software such as InDesign and Photoshop.

Target Salary Range: $55,000-$63,000
