Technical Writer

Position Description:

A technical writer is an integral member of the UnitedHealth Group R&D team responsible for developing the next wave of game-changing healthcare technologies and programs. The R&D group identifies new ideas and then conducts patient-facing and analytical research to prove that these ideas are viable. We then develop the best of these ideas into programs and services that improve patient health and satisfaction.

However, excellent research is valuable only if we can communicate and apply what we’ve learned. That’s why we’re looking for a writer to join our team. We want someone who will help us ensure that every document meets the highest standards in quality of thought and clarity of expression. The writer needs to be scientifically minded, able to tell a clear and concise story, and care about the nuances of great writing - including dotting i's, crossing t’s, and inserting the Oxford comma wherever it’s missing.

Types of writing include research summaries, business proposals, white papers, web copy, and presentations.

Primary Functions and Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with researchers to clarify and articulate their ideas 
• Work with our team of writers and designers to produce writing of various styles, depending on the research need 
• Participate in secondary research

Required Qualifications:

• BA or BS in English, communications, or science 
• 1+ years of experience in technical writing, science writing, or journalism

Preferred Qualifications:

• Basic training in statistical concepts 
• Background knowledge of business and healthcare
