A nationally acclaimed visual and performing arts complex in downtown Sheboygan, the John Michael Kohler Arts Center is devoted to innovative explorations in contemporary art. Central to its mission is promoting an understanding and appreciation of the work of self-taught and contemporary artists through original exhibitions, commissioned works of art, performing arts programming, community arts initiatives, and publications. The Arts Center's collections focus primarily on works by environment builders, self-taught and folk artists, and works created in the Arts/Industry residency program.The 100,000-square-foot Arts Center comprises ten galleries, a flexible performance space, studio-classrooms, meeting spaces, SHOP, and CAFE. The Arts Center also has an adjunct site: ARTspace, an exhibition space and shop in The Shops at Woodlake in Kohler Village. In 2021, the Arts Center will open the Art Preserve, a new building dedicated to the display and study of JMKAC's collection of artist-built environments.

The Graphic Designer is responsible for the conception, layout, and high-quality design of all Arts Center marketing materials in support of a number of priority initiatives – across the full-range of mediums from print to online, from e-marketing to programming/event materials. The Graphic Designer is responsible for creating materials thatare unique, effective, and well-designed within branding guidelines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: Other duties may be assigned.

  • Meet with marketing team members, internal clients and stakeholders to clearly understand the design strategy and goals 
  • Present ideas to internal clients in an effective and professional manner 
  • Create concepts, sample layouts, and final designs 
  • Work with others, such as printers, programmers, developers or other technicians, to complete the final product 
  • Manage multiple projects under tight deadlines, work independently and function effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced, creative environment

Education and/or Experience:

  • Associate Degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or Computer Graphics required; 
  • BA preferred; BFA a plus; 
  • 2+ years of formal project management experience in graphic design.

Skills:

  • Proficiency using Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, with an emphasis on InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop; 
  • Expertise with e-Marketing best practices
  • Ability and willingness to adopt new technologies 

Other Qualifications:

  • Well-organized and able to work consistently on recurring projects 
  • Strong conceptual thinker; ability to develop creative ideas within tight brand constraints and deadlines
  • Experience developing branding and brand guidelines/standards a plus. 
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate and work effectively with a wide range of staff and constituencies 
  • Able to handle tight deadlines and multiple stakeholder requests with a positive attitude and grace.
