The City of Wauwatosa is seeking a professional who is dynamic and energetic with skills incommunication, graphic design, and marketing to promote Wauwatosa as a destination, implementtourism advertising, develop positive relationships with businesses operating in the tourism economy,and manage tourism development projects, such as special events, art installations, and more. Theideal candidate is highly motivated, personable, has excellent communications skills, web experience,social media experience, and digital/print marketing experience. The Tourism Coordinator will organizetourism work under the direction of supervisor, set priorities, meet deadlines with minimal directionand oversight and will bring creative ideas to how to grow Wauwatosa as a tourism destination.

The starting pay for this position ranges from $56,014 to $63,981 annually, depending on experienceand qualifications. Further increases to the top of the range, $76,794, will be based on performance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists consultant in developing and updating communications via the city’s tourism website, social media and other means to ensure visitor awareness of Wauwatosa as a premier tourism destination.
  • Manages the Tourism Commission’s contracts with third party service providers to market Wauwatosa as a tourism destination, including providing expertise on branding, media buys, content, and other marketing strategies.
  • Responsible for implementing the Tourism Commission’s programs, including, but not limited to the Hartwork Project, mural programs, special event sponsorships, special events, and more.
  • Uses expertise to suggest additional tourism services, events, and programs to the Tourism Commission for consideration.
  • Assists with the preparation and management of the Tourism Commission’s budget.
  • Implements events that attract tourists from outside of Southeast Wisconsin and outside of the state of Wisconsin to Wauwatosa, which may include working hours outside of normal business hours on weekends, evenings, and occasional holidays.
  • Develops effective working relationships with key stakeholders, community groups, special event organizers, and the business community to assist in the promotion of Wauwatosa as a tourism destination.
  • Assesses, develops, recommends and implements programs that will enhance the City of Wauwatosa’s profile, social media imprint and reputation as a tourism destination.
  • Develops content for print materials, correspondence, reports, advertising and news releases for mass distribution; and drafts articles and reports on the status of major initiatives for distribution to Tourism Commission and relevant external audiences.
  • Attend Tourism Commission meetings; prepare agendas and agenda packet materials.
  • May serve as spokesperson to media and external audiences.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Hospitality, Public Relations or a related field
  • Two years of relevant work experience.
  • Superior communication and customer service skills. Knowledge of and experience with developing and managing websites and social media.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective and positive working relationships with external and internal customers, including citizens and visitors, elected officials, and City employees.
  • Excellent people skills and an upbeat enthusiastic attitude.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, in oral and written form, to diverse groups and individuals.
  • Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines and manage projects independently.
  • Strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail.
