The Role:

As UX Designer at Capstone, you’ll use your strong ability to empathize with users to create, enhance, and optimize the user experience for Capstone’s digital products. You’ll have a hand in improving our fast-growing products like PebbleGo, our ebook platform, and Capstone Connect, as well as websites, mobile apps, and internal tools.

The UX Designer works collaboratively with our UX and Digital Product teams to identify and solve for viability, feasibility, and usability concerns. You’ll be a key player on our digital development team in optimizing our digital products to make them engaging for students and a tool that teachers trust for educational content. Use your knowledge and passion for UX design and education to help shape learning tools that impact thousands of children all over the country.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:

User Experience Design

  • Support or lead UX Design functions and deliverables for the product development teams from Discovery to Delivery (including but not limited to, Competitive Analysis, Usability Testing, Research Reports, Site Maps, Information Architecture Deliverables, User Flows, Wireframes, Interactive Prototypes, Visual Designs, Style Guides, and Developer Specs). 
  • Oversee implementation and maintenance of Capstone’s expanding Design System. 
  • Supplement UI, production, animation, and front-end work as needed.

Problem-Solving & Collaboration

  • Identify and communicate UX problems and opportunity areas to maintain strong UX based on user feedback (Researching, Sketching, Prototyping, and User Testing). 
  • Manage design hand-offs and provide on-going support tasks for Software Development Teams in an Agile/SCRUM work environment. 
  • Work collaboratively with the Product Design team, Product Management team, and Software Development team to complete projects and accomplish UX goals. 
  • Identify and troubleshoot UI/UX problems (e.g., WCAG Compliance).

Education, Experience, and Skills desired:

  • Graduate of an accredited school with a degree in Graphic Design, User Experience Design, Web Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or related field. 
  • 3+ years of professional design experience. 
  • Proficient computer skills with the ability to design and prototype using UX tools, e.g., Adobe CC (Adobe XD, Lightroom, Photoshop, Illustrator, and After Effects), and a working Knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript skills are aplus. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of UX best practices to design solutions with a deep understanding of mobile-first and responsive design. 
  • A solid grasp of user centered design (UCD), planning and conducting user research, user testing, A/B testing, rapid prototyping, heuristic analysis, usability, and accessibility concerns. 
  • Must be passionate about all things UX with a heart for design and innovation. 
  • Research and showcase knowledge in the industry’s latest trends and technologies—Voice-First (VUI), AR/VR, etc. 
  • Experience in the K-5 EdTech space and/or working with K-5 students or teachers is a plus. 
  • A working knowledge of Design & Innovation Frameworks – Lean UX, Design Thinking, GV Design Sprint, etc. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an innovate spirit is a must. 
  • Self-directed and able to work with little supervision. 
  • Creative, energetic, and eager to learn new projects and implement ideas.
