Reporting to the CEO, the Vice President of Development is responsible for overseeing all aspects of Development for Avenues to Independence.

Key Responsibilities:

Establish the overall strategic direction for the Development office annually, which includes collaborating with the CEO and Development Team to develop, implement and review fundraising strategies, including:

  • Annual Fund
  • Special events
  • Grant writing
  • Individual giving
  • Corporate giving
  • Legacy Giving Society and
  • Campaigns/Major Gift Initiatives

Lead the Development team, which consists of:

  • Director of Development
  • Annual Fund and Special Events Associate Director
  • Communications Manager
  • Database Manager
  • Grant Writing Consultant
  • Fundraising Consultants

Serve as primary point of contact for Herbst Circle of Giving donors, which includes:

  • Communicating with donors on a regular basis, which includes visits, calls and notes
  • Reviewing donor history and developing plans to increase donor giving
  • Identifying ways in which to partner with the CEO, Board members and others in the stewardship process
  • Ensuring appropriate donor recognition

Serve as Development point of contact for Board of Directors, Foundation Board of Directors and liaison to Avenues Partnership Boards

In conjunction with the Communications Manager, oversee all communications, marketing and public relations efforts for Avenues to Independence

In conjunction with Director of Development, oversee Annual Fund and identify and steward prospective and new donors

Develop, promote and oversee the Sasser Society for planned giving

Provide reports for Board and Administrative review

Solicit and engage in presentations regarding Avenues to Independence with businesses and community groups

Complete other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field required; Master’s preferred 
  • Minimum 8-10 years’ experience in fundraising required 
  • Prior supervisory experience required 
  • CFRE a plus 
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, as well as database management skills (Raiser’s Edge)
  • Commitment to Avenues to Independence mission, values, and strategic direction 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously 
  • Demonstrated professionalism, flexibility, good judgment and commitment to teamwork 
  • Ability to be nimble and respond appropriately in varied situations 
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills among diverse constituent groups 
  • Existing knowledge of the local community and philanthropic landscape a plus
