ATTENTION:

The Department of University Marketing and Communications in the Division of University Relations at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a Video Storyteller (Videographer, CM039). Academic staff positions are provided fixed term appointments with annual renewals unless otherwise noted. Reappointment for subsequent terms is dependent on performance, University funding and external forces.

JOB DETAILS:

The Video Storyteller is responsible for creating compelling and authentic videos that tell UW-Whitewater’s story to transform lives — shared on the web, social media, in marketing campaigns and at live events — all in support of the University’s goals, branding efforts and overall educational mission. The Video Storyteller serves as a leader in video production and storytelling. The position reports to the Executive Director for University Marketing and Communications.

The Video Storyteller is an on-site position with job duties performed at a designated work site. Occasional remote, off-site work is allowed with supervisor approval. Candidates must be able to work some evenings/weekends.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

A. Creates compelling and authentic videos

A1. Plans, schedules, shoots and edits professional, high-quality video, end-to end.

A2. Participates in and leads pre-production video project meetings in collaboration with the UMC team and other departments to interpret creative briefs and develop visual solutions and engage target audiences.

A3. Executes post-production videos, including music selection, motion graphic creation and captioning.

A4. Packages videos for release on various platforms, from web to social media to in-person presentations.

A5. Evaluates effectiveness of video projects in meeting goals and objectives.

A6. Archives projects and video files in an organized fashion.

A7. Maintains and cares for video production equipment.

B. Serves as a leader in video production and storytelling:

B1. Demonstrates full range of production techniques including video and sound recording, lighting, motion graphic creation, editing methods and use of related software programs and equipment.

B2. Exhibits strong sensibilities regarding music, emotion and imagery, as well as a keen eye for design and aesthetics.

B3. Exudes passion for videography and enhances the UMC team's overall creativity.

B4. Keeps current on best practices and evolving trends as they relate to the University's video storytelling strategy and University goals.

B5. Fulfills internal and external requests for archive video or b-roll.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree 
  • A minimum of five years of experience in video storytelling, project development and/or production

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience working in Adobe After Effects and Adobe Premiere Pro 
  • Experience with Canon video cameras 
  • Knowledge of motion graphics animation 
  • Knowledge of captioning and accessibility techniques and systems 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 
  • Positive interpersonal skills and the ability to forge strong partnerships and relationships across the university and with external partners 
  • Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds 
  • Strong time-management, multitasking and organizational skills 
  • Ability to meet deadlines 
  • Ability to work as a true collaborator and team player 
  • Desire to work with and mentor student employees and interns 
  • Performs duties with a high degree of accuracy, independence and discretion

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Salary offer will be commensurate with experience — the minimum starting salary for this position is $54,000 and the maximum starting salary is $60,000.
