THE POSITION

The Videographer works within the Marketing Department to produce multimedia content across multiple platforms to visually and creatively amplify the Guthrie’s programming, stories, staff and artists, history and core values. Using technical knowledge of both videography and photography, this highly collaborative role will manage visual projects from start to finish, including ideation, preproduction, shooting, editing and modifying files for various applications. All employees are expected to center, model and champion the Guthrie’s core values of Artistic Excellence; Community; Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility; and Fiscal Responsibility.

This position is full-time, exempt and benefits-eligible. Compensation for this position is $47,315 – $60,338 annually plus benefits. This role will work Monday – Friday 9 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Must be willing to flex work schedule to accommodate evening and weekend film/photo shoots, including filming a minimum of 10 productions on Friday evenings throughout a season.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Ideation

  • Work in collaboration with Marketing and other departments to develop multimedia content that is on brand and serves organizational goals and initiatives. 
  • Maintain an awareness of Guthrie programs and initiatives and pitch story ideas best suited for video. 
  • Participate in the content development process, including research and ideation of concepts with Marketing and key Guthrie stakeholders. 
  • Create video storyboard proposals with the Digital Marketing Manager that are in service to the goals of the production or organization, route for feedback/approval and refine as needed. 
  • Maintain an awareness of video trends and respond to data to continue to optimize views and engagement.

2. Content Creation

  • Write, produce, capture, and edit a variety of video projects such as show trailers and TV commercials, recruitment videos, fundraising videos, behind-the-scenes content, motion graphics and more. 
  • Select, assemble, and use proper camera and lighting equipment based on project needs. 
  • Execute video and/or photo content, often in collaboration with various departments, according to approved storyboards, timeframes and budgets. 
  • Conduct and film interviews with staff, artists and community partners. 
  • Communicate with staff/artists to schedule shoots as needed. 
  • Demonstrate a strong familiarity with audio and lighting techniques in a variety of environments. 
  • Edit and output video so that it is file-ready for online video hosting, social media and television. 
  • Upload file-ready content to the Guthrie’s Vimeo platforms for archival and proofing purposes. 
  • Create motion graphics that uphold the Guthrie brand and style. 
  • Photograph staff, artists, merchandise, spaces and events as needed and/or pull photo stills from video for use in Marketing materials.

3. Administration

  • Maintain the organization’s archive of raw and edited video content and output content for multiple platforms, ensuring all brand standards are met. 
  • Organize and film raw footage of productions, special events, interviews, backstage opportunities and education programs. 
  • Archive captured photography of staff, artists, special events, theater spaces, merchandise and food/beverage. 
  • Provide additional video production as needed for other departments, B-roll, archive footage, etc. 
  • Maintain the department’s video and photo equipment, and secure rental equipment as needed.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in video filming and editing. Formal, informal and cross-disciplinary experiences will be considered. Experience filming and editing for theatrical productions a plus. 
  • Strong understanding of and proficiency in the pre- and post-production video and photography processes. 
  • Expertise working with motion and DSLR video-still cameras. 
  • Can work in Premiere Pro to create a compelling story. Experience with After Effects a plus. 
  • Can apply the principles of lighting, composition and color to create high-quality content. 
  • Knowledge of correcting sound levels and capturing audio with a variety of mics and feeds. 
  • Experience filming and editing for social media formats (Instagram, TikTok, etc.) a plus. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook and social media platforms. 
  • Proficient in both MacOS and Microsoft Windows operating systems.
  • Possesses big-picture thinking as well as attention to detail. 
  • Awareness of industry trends, with a keen eye for design, typography and image selection. 
  • Can work in a collaborative environment, accept feedback and make requested changes. 
  • Can work independently, self-motivate and be technically proficient in troubleshooting. 
  • Well-organized and can multitask, prioritize and take on last-minute tasks. Experience working on competing video project timelines and editing in a fast-paced environment a plus. 
  • Exceptional time management and interpersonal skills. 
  • Needs to lift approximately 30–40 lbs. at a time to transport, set up and tear down video/photo equipment. 
  • Is willing to flex work schedule to accommodate evening and weekend film/photo shoots, including filming a minimum of 10 productions on Friday evenings throughout a season. 
  • Experience with and commitment to working with individuals and teams that are mixed across lines of difference, such as race, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, ability, age, class and immigrant status.
