The United Community Center, a non-profit community-based organization is looking for a Volunteer and Events Coordinator to assist in the planning and execution of variety of agency events, and manage volunteer force at agency. The candidate we seek will work closely with the Marketing Director and other members of the Marketing Team to manage all logistics, planning, and on-site coordination of all events. In addition, this individual will coordinate volunteers across the agency including individual, group, and one time corporate group events. Through the management of volunteer recruitment, placement, retention and recognition, volunteers will be cultivated as friends and funders of the agency.

The Volunteer and Events coordinator will need to communicate and coordinate with both internal and external customers to ensure smooth and successful events and volunteer experiences that help portray a positive image to all visitors, sponsors and community members. Additionally, this person will be a critical member of the marketing team assisting with a variety marketing projects, social media, other communications assignments.

  • Lead on all volunteer coordinator for the agency including managing individual, one-time, and group and corporate volunteer projects and related agency events. 
  • Manage recruitment, retention and recognition of all volunteers as a function of “friend-raising for the agency” 
  • Support United Way season of caring efforts and other United Way requests in regards to volunteer and special events 
  • Coordinate and execute major agency events including, but not limited to, fundraising events, receptions, grand openings, dedications and press conferences 
  • Develop timelines, task lists and action items for all events and delegate responsibilities to staff members and volunteers
  • Coordinate contracts with rental agencies, event vendors and agency restaurant to satisfy event needs 
  • Manage internal bookings of spacing and managing agency calendar 
  • Coordinate with Café el Sol for all catering and other event related needs 
  • Provide event coordination and Café rental assistance when needed, including calendar entry, management and communication of event activities including client and customer, details, welcome and follow-up. 
  • Assist with set-up and logistical arrangements for all events.
  • Other duties as assigned

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s Degree in Communications, English, or Community Development with at least three-five years of experience minimum in public relations, marketing, special events and volunteer coordination/management. Candidate must have excellent communication skills, and be comfortable with public speaking. Good writing skills, along with superior interpersonal communication and organizational skills are essential. Strong computer skills including word processing, mail merges, database use, and excel a must. We are seeking a proactive and self-motivated personality who can work well independently and in a diverse team of co-workers.
