Position Details

VP of Marketing & Communications
Twin Cities Metro
Minneapolis, MN

Responsible for leading the strategic direction and management of all internal and external marketing and communications functions for the company focused on creating the ultimate employee and resident experience. Translates business strategies and relevant customer and competitor information into targeted, high impact marketing and communications campaigns that drive positive results in customer satisfaction and employee engagement. Leads customer research, provides recommendations for our approach, executes advertising and promotional campaigns/activities that enhance the company brand. Leads public relations, analyst/influencer relations, branding and marketing, digital and social media and event strategy, and manages media relationships. Collaborate with and support executives, leaders and teams as a trusted advisor and strategist.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for development and execution of the overall marketing and communications strategy for the enterprise 
  • Translate business plans into marketing and communications plans, and set clear goals and objectives for marketing and communications functions 
  • Lead marketing team including hiring, management, evaluation and coaching for development and performance support 
  • Support property level marketing and ensure alignment with enterprise strategy 
  • Create customer and competitor research programs to ensure an ongoing understanding of customer perspective and needs, and essential competitor intelligence 
  • Establish clear and measurable benchmark metrics for marketing and communications programs, and accurately evaluate and communicate progress 
  • Partner with COO and other leaders in setting organizational-level communication priorities and oversee communications activities, including coordination of resources, budgeting and planning. 
  • Create media relations campaign strategies and identify media-worthy content opportunities that will further the brand in the industry 
  • Create an integrated advertising and communications campaign strategy to elevate the brand’s visibility and drive prospective engagement 
  • Develop/evolve the social media strategy to better engage organic followers and social media influencers 
  • Effectively utilize external media and advertising partners as needed 
  • Manage marketing and communications budget including timely and accurate review of budget results, variance reports and budget preparation. 
  • Implement and adhere to best practice methodologies and cross-departmental collaboration for all enterprise-level initiatives 
  • Build and strengthen a culture of continuous improvement 
  • Leads the preparation of updates and presentations for Executives, Board of Directors and as requested for Investor Relations and other as needed 
  • Deliver broad reporting that provides insights to current state of the business and key drivers to influence results


  • Translates the overall business strategy into day to day execution, providing coaching and feedback to the regional leaders, teams and support teams 
  • Brings a broad and long-term perspective to decisions 
  • Able to collaborate effectively across departments to provide strategic direction for growth 
  • Able to communicate concisely and effectively to provide context, motivate teams, and share information 
  • Motivates and leads a high-performance management team; attracts, recruits and retains qualified members of the team; provides mentoring as a cornerstone to the leader’s career development 
  • Able to engage key stakeholders in decision making process and execution of plans through high levels of interaction with executives 
  • Able to create alignment across functions and within operations team through high levels of interaction with department heads to ensure that the company’s operational priorities are aligned with company direction


  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications or related discipline of comparable proven experience. 
  • Minimum of 12+ years of relevant management experience preferably within multifamily asset class. 
  • Multi-state experience. 
  • Strong financial acumen; must understand the components driving P&L and G&A management. 
  • Extensive experience in managing, coaching and inspiring direct reports. 
  • Demonstrated success in leadership, team member development and team building. 
  • High level presentation, written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Experience creating and managing budgets and reporting to investors. 
  • Ability to prioritize tasks to ensure organizational goals and time frames are met. 
  • Proven improvement of process and operating results. 
  • Exceptional customer-service skills; demonstrated ability to maintain strong working relations with both internal and external clients. 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple and complex operational matters on a daily basis.


  • Master’s Degree or MBA in Marketing, Communications, Business or Real Estate.


  • Some travel may be required.
