Objective of the Role:

As the Vice President of Philanthropy and Community Engagement, you’ll work closely with our President & CEO, becoming an essential part of our Leadership Team. Your role will be pivotal in shaping the Goodman Community Center’s future, especially in terms of fund development and external communications. Together with the CEO, you’ll lead all our fundraising and development efforts, building new relationships to boost our visibility, impact, and financial resources.

You’ll also be the driving force behind creating and executing a comprehensive plan to forge key external alliances, nurturing both individual and philanthropic support. Your efforts will directly influence our community presence and philanthropic goals, making a tangible difference in the lives of those we serve.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that philanthropy and fund development efforts are aligned with the organization’s 3-year strategic plan, values, mission, and vision. Your focus will be on nurturing relationships with our major donors through thoughtful, personalized engagement and innovative stewardship, helping to ensure a shared commitment to our community’s future. 
  • Work closely with the Board of Directors and CEO, fostering collaboration and connection. Together, you will leverage networks to identify and nurture potential donors, sponsors, and partners who share our vision of supporting the community. 
  • Participate in Board meetings as needed, offering meaningful contributions and updates to the CEO’s monthly report. Your voice will help guide our collective efforts and ensure that our work remains aligned with our values. 
  • Provide the Senior Leadership Team and the Board with well-researched, thoughtful advice on growth strategies. Your insights will shape the future of our fund development efforts, ensuring they are sustainable, compassionate, and aligned with the needs of the community. 
  • Act as the primary relationship steward for our most valued donors and benefactors, building strong, trusting relationships. As a subject matter expert in philanthropy, you will guide and mentor others on the team, ensuring a cohesive, caring approach to fundraising. 
  • Lead the Development Team with empathy and understanding, ensuring that each member feels supported and empowered to reach their full potential. Provide strategic support, assist with problem-solving, and regularly review activities to help the team achieve its goals. Your leadership will ensure that the necessary resources are in place for everyone to succeed. 
  • Stay proactive by overseeing research on funding sources and emerging trends. By staying ahead of changes in the funding landscape, you will help position the organization to thrive in a dynamic environment. 
  • Identify key social, political, and strategic issues that may impact the organization, both provincially and nationally. You will play an important role in recommending thoughtful, compassionate responses that support the well-being of our community. 
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive donor engagement program that focuses on relationship-building, from initial identification through to ongoing stewardship. Your care in cultivating and managing donor relationships will be central to the organization's success, including maintaining a personal portfolio of major donors. 
  • Stay informed about the latest developments in philanthropy, fund development, and the broader nonprofit sector. Your ability to bring this knowledge to the CEO, Board, and Fund Development Committee will help guide policy decisions that shape the future of our organization. 
  • Lead the development of creative and innovative fundraising strategies that reflect our values and commitment to the community. This includes overseeing events, one-time campaigns, and annual giving efforts that inspire generosity and connection.

Requirements:

Educational Background:

  • Bachelor’s Degree: In a relevant field such as communications, business administration, public administration, marketing, etc.
  • Advanced Degree: A bonus!

Experience:

  • Fundraising Experience: At least 5-10 years of progressive experience in fundraising, development, or a related field.
  • Leadership Experience: Proven track record in a leadership role, managing teams, and overseeing large-scale fundraising campaigns.
  • Strategic Planning: Experience in developing and implementing strategic plans for fundraising and community engagement.
  • Relationship Management: Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with donors, sponsors, and community partners.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present to diverse audiences. 
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills to engage and inspire donors, board members, and community stakeholders. 
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze data and trends to inform fundraising strategies. 
  • Project Management: Strong organizational and project management skills to handle multiple initiatives simultaneously. 
  • Problem-solving: Creative problem-solving skills to address challenges and identify opportunities for growth. 

Knowledge:

  • Philanthropy Trends: In-depth knowledge of current trends in philanthropy and fund development. 
  • Nonprofit Sector: Understanding of the nonprofit sector, including regulatory and compliance issues. 
  • Diversity and Inclusion: Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of work.

Additional Requirements:

  • Networking: Ability to leverage personal and professional networks to advance the organization’s mission. 
  • Board Engagement: Experience working with and supporting a board of directors in fundraising efforts. 
  • Technology Proficiency: Familiarity with fundraising software and CRM systems.
