Governors State University is seeking to hire a Web Designer to be responsible for maintaining and providing ongoing production and design of Governors State University’s (GSU) web sites—GSU’s public website and other ancillary public online sites—by updating content provided, creating new pages as needed, providing HTML/HTML5, CSS and JavaScript coding when needed to support content goals. The Web Designer is responsible for ensuring a seamless user journey through UI/UX best practices and promoting accessibility as defined by the ADA and to the WCAG level AA standard.

The Web Designer should be skilled at building, improving, and sustaining a digital presence and journey, as well as using analytics in the execution of a content strategy. This individual will develop and update website and portal content, ensuring effectiveness in digital advertising campaigns and CRM communications and manage Web design project completions.

The Web Designer should have an extensive knowledge of CMS systems and online building applications (Ektron, Acquia/Drupal, Unbounce), UI/UX design, measuring and reporting analytics, and digital advertising platforms, as well as coding knowledge (HTML, Javascript, CSS).

Essential Responsibilities:

  • 55% - Design and upload content that is both ADA compliant and Search Engine Optimized: Update and optimize web and portal pages, optimizing information architecture and calls to action working effectively with university stakeholders.
  • 10% - Communicate proactively with university departments.
  • 15% - Add, remove, and update events across web and portal pages.
  • 10% - Track web, portal, and CRM analytics to ascertain content engagement levels.
  • 5% - Continuously audit web and portal content to ensure relevance, accuracy, and timeliness.
  • 5% - Other duties as assigned.

Competencies:

  • Knowledge of CMS systems and online building applications (Ektron, Acquia/Drupal, Unbounce). 
  • Knowledge of UI/UX design, measuring and reporting analytics, and digital advertising platforms. 
  • Knowledge of coding (HTML, Javascript,CSS). 
  • Knowledge of search engine optimization principles and ADA compliancy. 
  • Effective communication skills. 
  • Working proficiency with Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator. 
  • Intermediate graphic design skills and experience 
  • Good interpersonal skills with demonstrated success collaborating and problem solving with stakeholders, project teams, and external partners. 
  • Ability to build a website and online modules from the ground up using coding, applications and online resources. 
  • Online portfolio or examples demonstrating expertise in web graphics.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor/Master’s degree in Communication, Marketing, Computer Science, Business Administration, or related field. 
  • Working experience with an enterprise level website redesign. 
  • Ability to ensure that all website and web application designs comply with university web design standards and protocols; researches and stays up to date with web design techniques and approaches to improve the visual appeal and performance of websites. 
  • Knowledge of designing for 3rd party digital advertising platforms. 
  • 3 years’ experience in web, UI/UX, or digital marketing

Starting Salary: $42,607.50 (This is a non-unionized position. Salary starts at the base and is determined based on Education and Experience exceeding the minimum qualifications).
