POSITION TITLE: Web Developer

FTE: 1.0

DEPARTMENT: Office of Marketing and Communication

REPORTS TO: Assistant Vice President for Marketing and Communications

FLSA: Exempt

This position promotes and supports the learning experience of Marian University students by, providing oversight to Marian’s external and internal websites including, SEO, navigation, page design for positive user experience, editing, analysis, and overall website health and management, while maintaining consistent brand. An ideal candidate will be able to make business decisions based on data and research, take initiative on projects, and develop relationships with external and internal partners to keep Marian University’s website up to date and accurate.

Website Development – 75%

  1. Creates, edits, manages, and maintains Marian University’s external and internal websites. 
  2. Collaborates with marketing and communications, admission, advancement, and academic teams to prioritize requests. 
  3. Develops and maintains website information and architecture by pulling analytics for performance including 404 errors, SEO, etc. 
  4. Works with external website vendor regarding off-site hosting, technical support, and maintenance. 
  5. Serves as the in-house technical expert for Marian’s websites, providing assistance in problem solving and proactively maintaining the sites. 
  6. Provides quarterly reports on SEO, improvements, load speeds, user experiences that are data supported with goals to achieve more website traffic. 
  7. Has knowledge with web crawler software such as SEMrush to improve SEO metrics, addressing broken links and technical issues, and refining meta descriptions. 
  8. Collaborates with marketing and communications team with ideas for creative strategies, web design/layout, to support marketing campaigns and storytelling of Marian initiatives.

User Experience – 20%

  1. Based on target audiences and/or personas, create and implement customized experiences. 
  2. Provide guidance on UX research, trends, with suggestions and goals that would increase user interaction, engagement, and increase actions. 
  3. Perform usability tests on different design or interface elements on the website or within digital communication.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Performs other work related duties as assigned. – 5%
  1. Bachelor’s degree in website design, user experience, marketing, related field, or equivalent work experience.
  2. Three or more years of experience with website design.
  3. Proficient in WordPress, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  4. Ability to collaboratively work with both internal and external clients.
  5. Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  6. Self-starter that is detail oriented, organized, and has strong project management skills.
  7. Is creative, an idea generator, and willing to take risks.
  8. Option to work remote or at the Marian University campus, located in Fond du Lac, WI.
  9. Willingness to support the Mission and Core Values of the University.
