The Wisconsin Union is a financially self-supporting division of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Financial support for the organization is provided by income earned by dining units and a variety of non-food units such as recreation, guest rooms and space rentals. Substantial support is also provided by student fees. The Wisconsin Union has an annual operating budget of $56 million and employs nearly 250 full-time staff and 1500 student staff in the departments of Program & Leadership, Hospitality Services, Facilities, Administration and the Office of the Director. In addition, over 300 student volunteers and 2,000 club members under the Wisconsin Union Directorate (WUD) produce over 2,000 programs annually.

Deliver fun, create learning opportunities, and make a difference at the Wisconsin Union. As Web Operations Manager, you will oversee and manage a website that had more than 2.2 million page views in 2022. The incumbent will have knowledge of HTML, CSS, UX, SEO, and analytics reporting, to help us reach audiences with information about the 1,000+ concerts, events, and other exciting Wisconsin Union activities that take place annually. As part of the marketing/communications staff you will work with internal graphic designers, communications staff, marketing professionals and off-site developers.

Leads and participates in the design, development, implementation, maintenance, and support of websites. Serves as a subject matter expert, consultant, and main point of contact to internal and external stakeholders regarding website support.

  • 15% - Plans, implements, manages, monitors, and upgrades the unit's websites including intranets
  • 15% - Ensures website functionality and maintains existing website operation including implementing the content management system (CMS), making content updates, conducting content audits, and updating computer programming languages which may include HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • 10% - Responds and troubleshoots website issues
  • 10% - Ensures website quality, efficiency, and compliance with accessibility, security, privacy, and other university requirements and laws
  • 10% - Strategizes ways to improve the user experience of the website and manages information architecture strategy
  • 10% - Monitors web traffic and website performance, and assesses performance to optimize the website and to identify, prevent, and resolve issues
  • 10% - Collaborates with others to ensure that the website aligns with brand strategy and meets the unit's standards
  • 10% - Set up, maintain, and utilize Google Analytics to monitor website performance, make optimization recommendations, identify opportunities for improving the user experience, and provide reports for internal stakeholders
  • 5% - Utilizes SEO knowledge and best practices to increase organic traffic to webpages
  • 5% - Serve as primary liaison with external vendor to meet ongoing design and development needs and objectives.

Required:

  • Minimum of 4-5 years of relevant professional experience
  • Experience maintaining web sites in a variety of content management systems
  • Working knowledge of HTML and CSS Preferred: * Understanding of search engine optimization methodologies
  • Experience with Google Analytics, Google Search Console and Google Tag Manager
  • Experience working with web developers
  • Ability to work with and coach/guide student staff Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to manage large websites and successfully deliver deadline-driven projects * Outstanding written and interpersonal communications skills, project management skills, and strong attention to detail.
  • Self-starter who can work independently.
  • Minimum $70,000 ANNUAL (12 months) Depending on Qualifications.
