Coordinates the planning, maintenance and accessibility of all district web properties in a way that ensures the consistency of the look and feel across the organization. This includes ensuring that the layout, positioning, navigation and look and feel of content are consistent across and throughout the organization. Maintains knowledge of content management systems, open-source platforms, website security tools, certificates and testing applications.

  • Creates, edits, manages and maintains content on Milwaukee Public Schools’ district website and the district’s Intranet. 
  • Manages requests for website support throughout the organization. 
  • Manages the relationship with the website vendor. 
  • Develops and maintains website information architecture. 
  • Develops/refines standards, guidelines and procedures for website publishing. 
  • Coordinates efforts with other team members to provide accurate, up-to-date information on the website. 
  • Works collaboratively with various MPS office and department designees to develop materials for departmental sections of the MPS and intranet websites. 
  • Assists with content design of the intranet to assure smooth content management between the public and log-in portions of the website. 
  • Assists with training of district staff responsible for maintaining school and departmental portions of the website. 
  • Serves as the in-house technical lead and troubleshoots user issues for the district websites. 
  • Manages user accounts for district websites. 
  • Serves as the in-house technical expert on all district websites, requiring skills in HTML, CSS, JavaScript and relevant back-end languages. 
  • Oversees all website redesigns, re-skins or significant updates, coordinating activities with appropriate central services and/or school-based staff. 
  • Provides monthly reports on suggested improvements to allow the website to better function for key audiences. Partners with marketing staff to create strategies to grow web traffic metrics. 
  • Uses web crawler software such as SEMrush to improve technical SEO metrics, including removing broken links; identifying and fixing technical issues on slow-loading webpages; adding or refining metatag descriptions for each webpage; etc. 
  • Develops a three-year plan for the website in collaboration with other departments. 
  • Collaborates with Communication & Marketing team on brainstorming creative strategies for weekly messaging and storytelling ideas. 
  • Assists in the development and implementation of MPS overall internal and external communication strategy. 
  • Participates in all-staff, team, and other internal meetings as requested. 
  • Attends District meeting to stay up-to-date on District policy and happenings. 
  • Actively supports the MPS Strategic Plan. Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Position requires a bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations or related field. 
  • A combination of education & experience may be considered. 
  • Three to five years’ experience in communications, journalism, public relations or related field. 
  • Two years’ experience in online communications, social media or marketing communications required. 
  • Experience in HTML, CSS and JavaScript programming and deployment of online digital media.

Salary: $70,465 - 101,577
