Are you an experienced and talented writer who enjoys crafting and delivering compelling messages about the work of mission-driven nonprofits? Do you thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment where highly skilled creative types juggle multiple projects, adapt to constantly shifting demands and always have each other’s backs? Are you passionate about the role postsecondary education and workforce training can play in expanding life opportunities and reducing inequities? Our communications department at Ascendium Education Group is growing, so if you find yourself nodding enthusiastically upon reading those questions, we may have a job for you as a member of our writing team.
Ascendium promotes postsecondary success in a variety of ways: We’re one of the nation’s biggest higher education and workforce training philanthropies, awarding millions of dollars per year in grants to colleges, researchers and other changemakers aimed at helping more learners from low-income backgrounds complete postsecondary and job training credentials. We help student loan borrowers avoid and recover from the devastating impact of default. And we develop and market products and services that help colleges better support their students’ financial well-being.
We’re looking for two skilled wordsmiths—a senior writer and a mid-level writer—to help us elevate our national profile and refine how we communicate about our philanthropy to peers, practitioners in the field and various other stakeholders. You must have proven writing chops and a knack for translating complex issues and solutions into concise text that engages a range of audiences.
The individuals we bring on board will serve as key writers on projects related to our grantmaking, from web content to newsletter articles to reports on key issue areas, and more. In 2019 we rolled out a new funding strategy, and you will play a key role in presenting our evolving philanthropic vision to the world. As a member of the writing team, you’ll also produce a variety of other kinds of copy for both internal and external audiences as the need arises, which may include anything from employee emails to HR policy documents to executive talking points. You will be expected to apply the right voice and tone to each unique assignment while maintaining the highest standards of technical proficiency. You should be comfortable writing in the language of mission, vision and values while recognizing when to inject a bit of levity and pizzazz.
